My three year old has been very interested in this book, and it has been a great way to talk about kids in other countries, specifically Japan.
The text follows the English alphabet and provides Japanese words that correspond to the English sound. When there is not an equivalent Japanese sound, it is explained that that sounds is not present in Japanese, and gives a translation of a English word (For example, the L page gives the Japanese word for Lion). It's neat to see the different ways that the Japanese word is written, and I was glad to see that there is a corresponding website where you can hear the words pronounced.
I especially liked the longer notes that provided cultural explanations that appeared on some, but not all, pages. I wish that there had been more of them. Although I usually really like books that rhyme, there were times in this book that it seemed like the text became awkward as a result of the rhyme.
I received a copy of this book from Goodreads Firstreads. Thanks you!(less)
