The story was short (80 pages?), but so tightly packed with a lot of great, yummy and sexy romance. I loved it, can't wait to see where this serial goes.
JUST ONE NIGHT is part 1 of a new erotic m/f adult romance serial by new-to-me author Elle Casey. This is not an NA/YA romance (a genre this author is known for), as the H/h are in their mid/late 30's. It is super HOT and charged with a lot of sexual tension and burning chemistry!
In this episode, William and Jennifer meet and proceed to burn up the sheets under the agreement of a one-night only affair. It had a Cinderella twist as these two attend a high-dollar charity ball, which I loved. What they didn't expect was connecting so well on an emotional level, and setting their hearts on fire wanting MORE.
In case you are wondering, it does NOT have BDSM, menage, anal or other more extreme erotic kinkiness (at least, not in this book!) It was just good old-fashion dirty smut. ;-)
William is my kind of hero! He is a super HOT, sexy, funny British guy who I adored! His wit was pure British, and his prowess is my kind of hot and sexy!! Best yet, he doesn't suffer from 'Asshole syndrome', which is becoming far too common in today's romance books. He is simply a great guy who goes after what he wants, he doesn't have a load of personal baggage, and he really, REALLY knows how to treat a lady right.
Jennifer was just as wonderful. She is a smart and down-to-earth heroine who is finding a new sexuality about her self. She is no doormat heroine either! Yeah!! (Another trope which is becoming far too common!)
These two meet under the oddest of circumstances. While personal ads in romance books have been done to death, I really enjoyed the spin we get on this one. William answers her ad, which Jennifer was very reluctant to post, only because his secretary prodded him to do so. Their first conversation was a crack up, and really set the tone and chemistry for these two.
This is a serial, so don't expect the HEA just yet. But I have no doubt that these two will get an awesome HEA when the time comes. It ends in a really good place, and will leave you both satisfied and wanting more.
The writing: One thing I really enjoyed most about this book was the authors writing voice, especially since she does a lot of 'show me' and allows her characters to tell the story. (LOVE THAT!) The dialogue between William and Jennifer felt real, and I never questioned the genuineness of their attraction. It was told in 3rd person, and we get alternating POVs from both William and Jennifer.
***Before you discount this serial, know this: I too am not fan of serial episode books because you have to buy each book by the episode. But I am so glad I did with this one, and I should warn you that you might miss out if you skip over this serial. If there ever was an exception this might just be that series. Was the 80 pages for this 'chapter' worth the .99 cents I spent? Yes, absolutely.***
According to the author's blog, new books will come out every two to three weeks.
A big thanks to my friend J for the recommendation! I wouldn't have found this series otherwise.(less)

I LOVED the steam factor (HOT!!!!) but I especially LOVED the H/h. Try Me was great steamy erotica novella with a rock-star and a good girl.
The Story Melanie doesn't get the appeal of rock-stars, tattoos, piercings, and all that 'freakish' behavior, but her BFF Nikki is obsessed with it. So when her friend drags her back stage at a Sole Regret concert, only to abandon her when she hooks up with the lead singer, Melanie tries to quietly sit and wait for her friend to return. But when she befriends a 'normal' guy who at first-glance appears to be sans all that freakish shit, she finds herself pleasantly attracted to him.
Gabe is Sole Regrets drummer, aka 'Force'. He is enchanted by the beauty he just met as she doesn't even recognize him! So when he reveals a mohawk with head tats beneath his hat, and tats and piercings beneath his clothes, Melanie may just change her mind about freakish men.
My Thoughts Wow, Gabe and Melanie are my kind of H/h in a romance. For such a short novella, I was surprised how deeply I liked and connected with them. I enjoyed their honesty with each other, loved seeing who they are beneath the personas, and thought their sex scenes were smokin' hot. (BTW, this an m/f erotica, no ménage)
I don't read a lot of erotica, but I really like how this author incorporates hot sex with a solid, likable story and interesting characters. For a novella length story, this was an impressive bit of erotica.
I have no idea if this is going to be a new series, but I would love to read more about the band members and see what Gabe and Melanie were able to make of their budding relationship.(less)

What started as a VERY FRUSTRATING story does end up with a great twist, so glad I stuck with it. Looooved the ending, but this story should have been titled “Head Games”. It really reminded me of that popular rock song ...
[image error] "Head Games, its you and me baby Head games, and I can't take it anymore Head games, I dont wanna play the... Head games" (By Foreigner, 1979) [image error]
Reading REFLECTED IN YOU was like attending a sexually charged relationship drama-festival, complete with death defying roller-coaster rides, crazy ass clowns everywhere, and the song HEAD GAMES by Foreigner blaring out of speakers at 150 decibels! Whew, my head is still spinning from reading this book!
The headliners of this show, Gideon and Eva, start off as two seriously fucked-up head-cases who believe sex can solve all problems, and who appear to thrive on angst, jealousy, anger, fear, and control. There is very little ‘peace, calm and cozy’ about their turbulent relationship. Sadly, if it wasn’t for the last 15% which provided a great solid ending that left me anxious for the next story, I would have rated this even lower.
RIY starts off where BTY ended, then spends far too much time (the first 2/3rds of the book) just spinning in circles as we learn over and over (and over and over!) just how jealous Eva is, how secretive Gideon is, and how playing head-games to lash out at the other never solves a damn thing. Sex, on the other hand, apparently solves everything. If the choice is either ‘talk’ or ‘cock’, the cock wins every time.
When I first read that this series was going to be stretched into three books instead of the originally intended two, I immediately had some concerns. According to the author Gideon and Eva’s ending was already planned out, which made me worry that we might get filler content not originally intended for the story. Unfortunately, I think that is what most of the first half of the book contained: filler content.
The first 2/3rds of REFLECTED IN YOU spent a lot of time just showing the emotional, jealous and obsessive side of both Gideon and Eva, which stalled the actual pacing of the series IMO. It felt as if they were still back at the beginning and making no progress whatsoever. It was scene after scene of them stuck in a repetitive cycle of jealousy, anger, hurt and then makeup sex. I enjoyed the hot make up sex, and loved how devoted Gideon was to Eva, but watching these two fight over and over without making any progress got old quickly. I was ready for the story to move on.
Fortunately, the ending solved that and even shined some light on why Gideon kept so many secrets. We also learn more about his abuse story, so be prepared for an emotional jerker when it comes. I loved the ending, and it now feels as if the series is well back on track. It wasn’t until the last 1/3rd of the book (and most of it comes in the last 15%) when the story really started to come together. Eva finally pieces together many of Gideon’s secrets and reveals quite a shocking conclusion!! And best of all, I loved the Gideon and Eva we see toward the end. Just maybe (fingers crossed!) they have moved forward in their healing progress. (knock on wood, please!)
Gideon and Eva are trying to make a go at having a relationship, but Gideon’s ex-finance Corrine doesn’t want to walk away nicely. Eva feels threatened and very jealous, which calls into question her trust of Gideon. She is unsure about what is transpiring between Gideon and Corrine, and can’t come to terms with the amount of secrets that Gideon is keeping from her. Questions such as ‘where were you?’ and ‘What were you doing?’ go un-answered, he only tells her to trust him.
The fighting and arguing between Gideon and Eva felt non-stop. Even when they were together and having sex – they were still fighting!! And while he hates the constant fighting, he will only play this by his rules. He does not give up his friendship with Corrine, nor does he feel the need to answer Eva’s questions. It was frustrating! I found myself yelling at Gideon over and over!
So when one of Eva’s ex-lovers reappears, neither of them handles it well. I’ll leave it at that, but I will say I was really pissed off at both Gideon and Eva. I was equally pissed off at how they ‘resolved’ that problem between them. This plot device felt overly contrived too. It was just more drama and head-games that could have easily been prevented.
Gideon’s obsession with Eva is staggering; he practically devours her every time they are together. They cannot have sex enough, and he needs to know where she is and who she is with at every moment they are apart. He continues to spy on her, have her followed, and disrespects her privacy – all in the name of loving and protecting her. In fact, he professes his ardent desire for her every time they are together, which may re-assure her but oddly it made up far too much of their typical conversations.
They spend time visiting Dr. Petersen, a therapist, but make little progress. They are still both dealing with nightmares and significant issues form their childhood abuse. Cary plays a significant role as Eva’s bi-sexual roommate. He has his own storyline, and I am routing for an HEA for him too. It wasn’t until the ending that I felt that – just maybe—both Gideon and Eva have made progress with their healing, and could possibly have what it takes to truly have a healthy and loving relationship.
The sex scenes were plentiful, and some seriously hot. But I didn’t really connect with most of them as Gideon and Eva were often using sex in lieu of communicating with each other. When things went wrong (and it did often!) they would use their bodies instead of words, and it felt as if they measured their love in terms of sex and orgasms. And while I enjoyed all of the hot sex scenes, the lack of relationship building was off-putting for me, despite how much it fit with their personalities.
Despite not enjoying the first 2/3rds all that much, I am really looking forward to the next book in this series. The ending of this one made up for much of my issues I had early in the book, and even renewed my belief that Gideon and Eva are meant for each other. I have great hope for Gideon and Eva now! I would love to see more of the Gideon and Eva we saw toward the end of this book. Fingers crossed they don’t revert to the jealous and emotionally unstable couple we see through most of RIY, the ones playing non-stop head games with each other. As the lyrics say "Head games, and I can't take it anymore". My thoughts exactly.

(((Blow job lessons, anyone? LOL)))
Julie is about to turn 30 in two weeks so she decided to create a bucket-list of things to do before that big day. She spent the last six years raising her little sister and putting her own personal life on hold, but now that her sister is off to college all that is about to change.
Matt had a huge crush on Julie back in college, but before he could make his move Julie dropped out to raise her little sister after their parents were killed. Seeing her again at the law firm in Birmingham, Alabama (where he is on a short assignment), stirs up old desires.
The attraction and chemistry between Matt and Julie was hot and fun to read. When he discovers her list, he is more than happy to help. I loved the way they went about checking things off her list, it made me look forward to the next chapters!
Matt and Julie made a great couple, and I enjoyed their romance both in and out of bed. While they could burn up the sheets, their friendly chemistry with each other was just as fun to read. I loved the way he could tease Julie and make her putty in his hands.
“Of course, we’re not technically working for the same firm, so I think an argument could be made that a consensual relationship wouldn’t break any laws. At least not any corporate ones.”
He leaned into her, licking her ear lobe. “I can’t promise anything about Alabama laws, though. There are definitely some things the state frowns on that I wouldn’t mind doing with you, sugar. To you, even.”
This story reminded me of some of my favorite contemporary romance authors (Toni Blake, Erin McCarthy, Jill Shalvis...) Cheeky humor, hot sex, quirky but very likable characters...etc. I haven't read anything by Manda Collins before, but now I want to check out her other books. I look forward to more in this Legal series too.
Note: Manda contacted me and asked if I'd like a copy of her new self published novella, which I was happy to get as I've been wanting to try one of her books. She's been a Goodreads friend of mine for several years and recently became a published author with St. Martin's Press. My review was purely optional, but after reading this I had to gush about it. I'm very impressed.(less)

Three hot bank robbers take Melinda as a hostage, and gives her a thrill of a lifetime. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and look forward to more adventures staring these four. There was some good cheeky humor, intense suspense (the bad guys have more bad guys after them!), hot m/f/m sex, some light bondage, and plenty of hot tubs. This isn't the hottest erotica I've read, but I enjoyed how the author wove in a solid suspense story too. It's a pure fantasy read and a great naughty escape. I loved the heroine's obsession with 'cartoon porn', LOL. (Thanks Penny for the recommend!)(less)

WAAAAY better than that Fifty Shades of Grey. I do get the comparison, but truly this is a MUCH better read. Simply put, this book had the polish that FSoG grossly lacked. (I read FSoG just before I read this one. Sadly, I found it disturbing and only gave it a 1-star review.)
The major similarities: --hero is a young (late 20's), gorgeous, brilliant zillionaire business mogul who sports non-stop erections and has sex on the brain 24/7 --hero has a controlling and obsessive desire for the heroine, including a jealous streak that is off-the-charts --hero a has a dark and tortured soul that shapes his very world, brought on by years of abuse as a child --hero maintains a platonic relationship with his past sexual partners, which drives a major wedge with the heroine --HOT, HOT, HOT sex scenes
The major differences: -- Gideon isn’t a predator. Unlike Grey, Gideon never tries to coerce and manipulate Eva into doing anything that is for his sole pleasure alone. He doesn’t try to coerce and manipulate her into believing his desires should be the only desires that matter. --Eva has about 100+ IQ points on Ana, and can actually converse in an intelligent conversation without all of the “Whoa!”, “Oh, My!” and “Gasp!” (To say I like Eva better than Ana is an understatement!) --Gideon isn’t into ‘period sex’. Yuck. --No BDSM, at least not yet. This series will continue, so hard to say where it will go. Hmmmm. There was some light talk of subs & doms, pain-as-pleasure…etc. --No Arnica cream to sooth ‘bruising, sprains and injuries’. (Christian’s remedy for a bruising sore ass, oh lovely) --The writing is great. Tight, edited and well plotted. It is also quite refreshing when compared to the comic book tone of FSoG. --Not just ONE, but TWO main characters with damaged souls. (Yep, Eva has a dark soul too and it controls her.)
There are some other small similarities to FSoG, but for the most part I found this book stood well on its own. Gideon was a damaged soul, and the relationship between him and Eva often felt like a co-dependent mess and not a true romance. Eva’s past continues to haunt her, so the main question is can two damaged souls build a healthy relationship? Beneath all the layers of their relationship I did believe they will find true love and heal as best they can from their past. I never believed that with Grey and Ana in FSoG. This was a gripping story and I loved watching these two come together and try to get it right.
If you are holding off reading this because you didn’t like FSoG, you might miss out. If you like dark, edgy erotica romance with great writing, then forget the comparison to FSoG. I can’t wait to see how Sylvia Day closes their story.
Sept 21 - Audiobook review and update The audiobook version of this book is really good! Loved the narrator.
I think I enjoyed this book even more the second time through. The connection between Gideon and Eva is so deep and emotionally raw, and I think I connected with them even more in my re-read. They are intensely interesting characters, both individually and together as a couple. I picked up on many of the subtle details this time that helps to further explain why they are damaged souls, and why their turbulent relationship might be the healthiest thing for them. (less)

I'll admit I skimmed over some of the sex scenes as not everything in this book is my 'thing', but overall this was a great romantic/erotica read with two wonderful lead characters that made me laugh so many times.
Brian really fit the mold of a rocker. He was more of a lover than a fighter kind of guy, and his charm and devotion to Myrna was hot. Although sometimes he was bit too 'beta' for my tastes (did he really say 'pwease'?) he did fit perfectly in the context of this story. Myrna is a closet rocker chick who dresses in prim suits, she has a PhD in sexual psychology, and is even a few years older than Brian. When he meets her its instant attraction, and he quickly realizes she is quite possibly his muse.
In my limited experience, it's a rare for an erotica book to have both a great story and sizzling hot sex scenes that don't feel cheesy or repetitive, but Olivia Cunning really pulled it off. (less)

Nothing about this story felt contrived, false or forced. It was a beautiful, if not different (m/f/m), historical love story. I typically prefer the more mainstream m/f romances, but this one really made me think twice. It takes place in 1750 England, and through an array of believable circumstances the Earl must produce a child, yet he cannot be the biological father. Many lives are at stake if no son is produced. There are many layers to this story, so I wont spoil the book with all the details. I will just say that it was a very touching, moving, romantic and steamy read that fans of steamy romance historicals should really enjoy. I'm going to look for more by this author. (less)

I wasn't expecting such a deeply touching and tender love story, but dang - this one rocked. As much as I enjoyed 'One Reckless Summer', this one is hands down my favorite. I ditched a lot of errands yesterday as I couldn't put this book down, so I will write more later as I have a really busy day to get to. Oh, and for those wondering, it is sizzling HOT. Blake can write great steam that just flows with the story. It left my mouth dry just reading several of these scenes. I really loved it. And if you have a secret fantasy about a cop in uniform, you're going to especially love the hero Mike. Highly recommended to fans of steamy, heart-felt contemporary romances.

Cal is a famous football player taking some R&R at his brothers dude ranch. After a media frenzy erupts when he breaks an engagement with a media darling, he is hiding from the press. However, a sexy reporter finds his location and begins a deceptive ploy to get the scoop story -- not realizing that Cal is already on to her. So instead of shipping her off, he puts her through the hard-knock paces of a dude ranch and puts her up in a far away, old rustic haunted cabin with no electriciity. And of cource, keeping her in the dark about the cook, spa and massage therapist on premise.
The games these two play are hillarious, and the heat that erupts is smokin' hot. There is even a secondary romance story that was equally enjoyable. This book really reminded me of Erin McCarthy style with the humor, heat and great characters. I totally recommend it to fans of sexy, contemporary comedy style romances.
One thing that was odd is that this book is classified as a paranormal romance, but I think that is a big stretch. It has a ghost as a minor secondary characater with a few funny scenes, otherwise its a straight contemporary read. I've always enjoyed this author, but I hands down think this is my favorite from her. (less)
