Dr. Winterbourne treats women’s hysteria/night terrors in his home office. His methods not only cure the women but leave him turned on. He then visits the local brothel and the owner, Maggie, who knows his kink and lets him play doctor and patient with her.
When Winterbourne mentions he needs a new housekeeper, Maggie inserts a thieving girl, Jenny, into his house in the hopes that they can further their cause whilst stealing a bit from the good doctor. The trouble is Jenny likes the doctor and when she is caught with a pocketful of his belongings; she bargains her body for her freedom.
I liked this story. It’s super kinky and sexy and I liked the way everything played out. I liked the good doctor’s penchant for getting turned on by his patience, but not acting out his lust with them. I liked that Jenny, an innocent, is a bit of a voyeur and has to take care of herself when she’s turned on my the good doctor.
Like the other story that I read by Lolita, there are times when I find to stay in the time period in which this book was written. Did they have bras and underwear in the time of brothels and hansom cabs? I feel by the content and layer to this story that she had a full length novel in mind – but then sort of condensed it to a short story. There is so much going on in this story that she could have elaborated on and given more detail, too. It doesn’t really make sense to have it in this story as it is – it’s sort of unnecessary.
All in all this was a hot little story that I very much enjoyed.

This book has turned me into a Bundt cake baking fool!! They are so moist and delicious I feel like going back to “normal” cakes will turn my family against me.
The first cake I made was the Rocky Road. Oh. My. Goddess. It is so luscious and the frosting was so yummy it almost didn’t make it to the cake. I kept stealing tastes.
The book has colorful illustrations of each cake, detailed instructions and little tidbits or stories to accompany them. It is simple instructions and ingredients that produce a decadent dessert that people will think you slaved over it. I like that in a cookbook. I don’t want to waste a lot of time producing quality desserts, the easier the better. These are so easy but the results will blow you away.
If you don’t own a Bundt cake pan – fear not! They have included instructions for regular cake pans. But do yourself a favor and get a Bundt pan. I’ve had one for years and have never used it until now. Don’t know what I was afraid of, but I’m sorry it took me so long.
The second cake I made was the Fruity Pebbles cake. Make an appointment with the dentist after you eat this one because it is really sweet and I’m pretty sure you can get cavities just making it.
I tend to shy away from tiny cookbooks. I prefer bigger books, but this one seemed to open nice and the instructions are so easy it’s not like you need to keep looking at the recipe. They have the book nicely divided into seasons and holidays – helping you pick the perfect cake for the perfect occasion.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys baking. It’s a wonderful cookbook filled with delicious and creative desserts. It may inspire you to create your own Bundt cake recipe. I know I have several ideas running through my head!

I’ve been disappointed in the last couple of Fool’s Gold books, so I was a little leery about reading this one. Luckily, I ended up liking this one!

Shelby has had a rough past. Some of townspeople and her brother rescued her from a terrible situation and brought her to live in Fool’s Gold. She’s had some time to heal and most people see the improvements but there is one area of her life she can’t seem to fix – she can’t trust men.
Aidan runs an adventure touring company and sleeps with one tourist after another. One night stands are his specialty until a disgruntled partner sheds some light on his bad behavior. He realizes he’s become something he’s not proud of. Shelby sees this and devises a plan to help them both - a 6 month friendship with no sex or romantic entanglements. She can learn to trust a man and Aidan can have a relationship with a woman that lasts longer than his orgasm.
I really liked the Aidan and Shelby and the guy/girl things they took turns doing with each other in order to expand their horizons and build their friendship. Even though I knew eventually they were going to end up happily ever after, the journey to get there was well worth the read. They had plenty of chemistry and their friendship and affection toward one another was genuine.
There was some unnecessary cheesiness built in – Mayor Marsha’s intervening and the cockamamie idea she came up with. Nothing came of it and it was just like I said, unnecessary. The intervention of the man friends at the end was really cheesy and not at all what any of those characters would behave like - it just didn’t ring true, especially with Angel.
That being said, I am really glad I liked this one. It feels like the end of Fool’s Gold and I think it’s time. I couldn’t see where there were any new people she could hook-up in another story for this series. There are Aidan’s brothers who have relocated to a town called Happily, Inc. I am hoping they will be our next books, I think we need a new setting and series.

This was one of thoI love stories that make you want to read faster, and chuck the real world out the window whilst you escape in the exciting pages. This was one of those reads. I happily neglected my motherly and wifely duties while I promised myself just one more page.
India lost her husband tragically and feels partially responsible. While she rebuilds her life in Whiskey Creek, her daughter is staying with her in-laws until she has everything settled. She’s lonely and in need of a friend. In steps neighbor and bad boy Amos brother, Rod. She doesn’t want to fall for his ‘type’ but the two just click.
As they fight to put closure on India’s past – they just get closer and as things get more dangerous they realize how much they have to lose.
I loved India’s background and her story. I loved the idea that someone could come from nothing and make the life she had with her husband. I thought Ms. Novak poured even more truth into the pages showing how the past constantly finds its way to the present and even the best people have to defend and explain actions they’ve paid for over and over again. She and Rod had that in common. The Amos family has a rep, Rod is no stranger to trouble, but he’s a good man – a great man.
They had great chemistry and a true relationship. They were honest with each other from the start and I loved the way they took each other as they were - flaws and all, no apologies.
There is a side story that is barely an appetizer in size – yet the content is huge and I devoured it and enjoyed it like my last supper. I craved the little snippets that she gave me and felt like a giddy kid at Christmas with each one. I can NOT wait for Natasha and Mack’s story. I’m practically salivating over here. Bravo, Ms. Novak, for expertly enticing me and torturing me at the same time. It’s quite a gift you have!!

I’ve loved his relationships with the people in his life, especially his sisters. I’m a sucker for an Irishman – and even more so for one that can cook. His story, to me, has been a long time coming and had to be special. It was.
Connor has been in love with Jessica Dunn for as long as he can remember. There on and off again affair has been years and years in the making and he’s ready to take it to the next level… But Jessica is not seeing things his way, so once again they are off.
I really loved their story. The background on both characters only made my love for Connor grow and cemented the fact that he and Jessica were made for each other. Jessica has had such a tough life and she didn’t always make the wisest of decisions. She’s created all these walls and rules and expectations around what she thinks she deserves and needs and basically puts her bother before and above all us. She’s a wonderfully perfect sister, but a seriously flawed human being. I alternated between wanting to hug and nurture her to wanting to slap her silly.
The characters that make up the cast of the Blue Heron series are one of a kind. Catching up with them makes me want to revisit their own stories. Colleen and Connor crack me up – so much love and teasing. They are twins, business partners and best friends. There is plenty of humor at the expense of the other. So much of the greatness of her stories stems from the amazing people she writes.
Their journey is not an easy one. It’s a difficult, emotional and sometimes painful path to happily ever after. But that journey makes the ending all that more satisfying. They earned their happily ever after and you know they will fight to keep it.
