Love, bravery, triumph and courage. I grabbed at the beginning..got a little lost during Homan's story but he was deaf thus his perspective was reflective of his sensory experience. I worked in the 70's and 80's as a young women in the state hospital system after de-institutionalization. I saw inside and out. My uncle was a product of the state hospital system treatment methods. I was deeply intrigued to read this book ..it did not completely fulfill me, it was part fairy tale but it was a good read for Xmas. The end was a tear jerker. Have a box of tissues handy. It's a happy sweet ending which I rather loved..(less)
