First one was Glimmerglass that I read last year. These books are such a good time. They are smart, full of romance, and full of Dana's snarky comebacks! I love Dana! Her voice is distinct and funny and direct. She is very strong but not too strong. Just right. Oh and did I say funny? She is a kick in the pants to me.
Talk about an intriuging world. I love the finding out about all the faerie nuances. The political atmosphere was on the back burner a bit for this one (that's what I loved so much about the first book) but enter the Erlking! Yowsa! I loved him! He personified all the things about faerie to me. Unable to lie yet deftly twists the truth to his advantage. You don't want to go up against him as a naive novice which, oh wait, Dana is. Yet he was kind on one hand but oh so ruthless on the other. Not to mention a hunky guy with a biker gang!
Romance. Ok, I thought Dana and Ethan's interludes were steamy in the last book. The heat turned up a notch in this one. WOOO! It wasn't offensive to me though. In fact at the beginning of the book there is a scene at the movies that may be one of my favorite "steamy" scenes of all time!
All in all I really enjoyed this book. I am so excited the next book (last book) is already out. I'm picking it up from the library tomorrow. I love to be in Dana's world for as long as I can be there. ...more

See in this book vampirism is spread by a parasite. Each chapter is prefaced by a different parasite and how it opperates. Microbiology was my favorite class in college so that was completely fascinating to me. However, a little creepy when you start reading this in the dark as a chaperone at girls camp on the top bunk with a flashlight. To be reading about microscopic creepy crawlies while experiencing the fear or actuality of creepy crawlies on you can really mess with your head. Parasites are truely nasty so it's not for the weak of stomach but it was so cool cuz something about each was subtly included in each chapter. Brilliant premis! Now, parasites use their hosts to spread and make more of themselves and because of that there was alot of talk of sharing bodily fluids (and I don't mean blood). Therefore I wouldn't reccomend it for the younger generation. And the afterward he wrote did make me roll my eyes. Stick to the fiction please Mr. Westerfeld. All in all I was completely fascinated by the science of it all plus the supernatural twist by the end, and that made it an amazing read for me. Thanks for always delivering a smart, well thought out read Mr. Westerfeld. Sometimes that is just what the doctor ordered....more

Liked the new characters that came in but can I say that the heroine bugs the CRAP out of me! She is ULTRA dramatic. Luckily she was not in this one a ton. Maybe that is why I liked it a titch better than the first. Something about these books rambles a bit but I don't know what I would take out. All that being said I still want to read the enovella that is coming out on August 2nd and the sequel, Beautiful Chaos, coming out October 18th....more

There was sooooo much I really liked in the book! I was totally mystified by all the Icelandic lore and really want to know more! (Hope she includes that in any sequels.) It really made the book unique and beautiful. The ending I did not see coming and completely surprised me which is awesome! I also, being pregnant, found the whole aspect of "storks" finding suitable mothers for spirits lovely and completely different. If I wasn't pregnant, however, always wanting babies of my own and never being able to control when I get one, I may have just bawled my eyes out through the whole thing. Lets just say I'm glad the timing worked out right for me to enjoy this book. The only drawbacks I had were, the main character is a real fashionista and not being one myself sometimes I found myself lost. I also get that she is feisty but at times I wanted her to be a little more respectful in dealing with the other storks. Don't know that I really buy the explanation of Jack's story though. I think I need more info from the next book. Which I will definately be picking up...whenever it comes out. Haven't heard anything about that yet but I will be watching. This story is one I see tons of potential in and I want more of....more

Wasn't overly impressed with book #1 it was a little confusing/unsatisfying at the end but decided to pick up #2 on the sheer force of the last sentence in book 1. It intrigued me. SOOOOOO GLAD I DID!!! This one was pitch perfect! I LOVED this book! Bree really got better as a second book author and I LOVED this story! You know concerning the main characters, throughout I thought "Oh I hate it when people are keeping secrets and you can see the train wreck coming! and it serves them right!" But by the resolution I completely came around and loved each one of them again for their choices! It takes a pretty good author to do a 180 like that with all characters. No questions or confusion for me now I just want the 3rd one!!!! One more year! I would now recommend this series to alot of people I held back on with the first one. Good stuff! But this gives me alot of hope for the slew of second books that I got for Christmas to accompany alot of "ok" first books from 2009. Here's hoping!...more

I laugheThis book has one of the best voices of a main character I have ever read! She is strong and sarcastic and completely hilarious at all times. I laughed out loud I don't know how many times. It was also really refreshing to read this completely new take on paranormal characters as they were all included, vampires, werewolves, fairys, hags etc. However, the main character is part of a secret agency that hunts them all down and tags them so that all of us can be safe. Sounds intense but it was a little like Fablehaven meets Sanctuary from the Sci-fy channel (which I do DVR and watch every week...don't judge me.)Anyway, it was really fun and intriguing enough that I read it in ONE SITTING! (That does not happen anymore ever!) If you like YA paranormal romance stuff you won't be sorry to pick this one up! ...more

I never got around to reading it cuz there was always something I was more excited about. This is a prequel/companion book to "Graceling" which was one of the first books that started my passion for reading up again. Now that I have read it I wonder why it took me so long! It was SO GREAT! I love to go back to a world that I have been before and even though these were new characters and even a new country it had a certain feeling of familiarity and comfort. I love the creativity that this author has! She comes up with AMAZING lands and believable and relatable heroines and heros. Fire is the name of the main character and she and her story were amazing! Love story, Action, Intrigue, and even a back story on how the villian in "Graceling" came to be the way he is. I love Cashore's writing although I do have a bit of an issue with some of the "feminist" decisions some of her main characters ultimately make, it wasn't enough to put me off this book. I see she is writing another companion story but no release date has been set. I will be anxiously awaiting that one and it won't take me a whole year to get to it, I can tell you that....more

This is the sequel to Iron King that came out last year. I picked it right after finishing "Mockingjay" and it was a perfect escape book! I love these characters! I remembered them right away and the feeling they, and the the whole world brought in from the first book. The romance was amazing-er that the first! I must say that I had a hard time picking between Puck and Ash! I think they are the hardest I've had to pick between cuz I like them both for so many different reasons.(Unfortunately I think I say that for every book that has a love triangle in it but oh well!) This was a quick and fun read and the whole fairy world that Julie Kagawa creates is very...for lack of a better word...COOL. If you haven't read these I highly recommend them. The third comes out February 1st! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!...more

It's taken me awhile this side of reading the book to really get my overall sense of it. This book is INTENSE! From page one to the end I was wrapped up in the sheer scope of what had happened to Panem, and what was happening to Panem. What had happened to my favorite love triangle- Peeta, Katniss, and Gale. Enter in District 13 and a whole new nest of games. I had no idea who to trust from the beginning because, dang!, if I made a wrong decision it could mean life or death for my favorite people! Suzanne Collins has a way of making you live what is going on in a very personal way. The twists and political turns were amazing to me. How does she come up with this stuff? The new characters and way of life was unbelievable in a way I never saw coming and I loved every second of it! On the other end,I think I mentioned that Suzanne Collins has a way of making you live what is going on in a very personal way. Lets face it, war is never pretty for anyone. The good guys may win but what ultimately can that mean for those who lived it? In reality nothing would ever be the way that it was. The effects are lasting and permenant on all whom it touches. As much as I want a purely happy and all is well ending for these characters that I loved I was prepared for this theme after reading Collins' first series also about war and how it affects younger warriors. As much as I LOVE and admire Katniss as a heroine, I am so glad I do not have her problems to live with or decisions to go home to. It was a relief to beable to put this book down by the end and walk away. That being said I was awed by the fact that this was a pretty universal response to this book. Everyone I talked to had a similar reaction-it was good but it will take alot of considering. BRAVO MS. COLLINS! Not only did you write a series that had everyone wanting to read, you also wrote a book that was not easy to forget or move on from. It had an affect whether positive or negative on everybody who picked it up. For me it was positive! I love these stories. THEY ARE AMAZING, pure and simple. I love Suzanne Collins as an author and I hope she writes more. Even though I know to pick up anything she writes means I have to brace myself for being swept away in a story that takes me to hard places, the journey is worth it!...more
