I have to admit forgetting quite a bit of the first book, but didn't leave me too confused on the plot of this book. I enjoyed the new characters, but missed having more of Polluck and Adi. My favorite part of this book was seeing how deep of a friendship Bran and Astara share. I will definitely pick up the next book when it comes out. I think this would be a great series for 10 and up boys and girls.(less)

I have to admit it started out rather slowly for me and took some time to really get into it. Knowing already a few details about Dorothea's life from previous novels it is not much of a mystery as to her love interest, but it was interesting to note how the characters all came together and got involved in the Underground Railroad.
I am happy that though Uncle Jacob was not particularly liked or much respected at the onset of the story, he was much better viewed by the other characters and the reader by the end. I still don't much like Jonathan's character as from the previous book his character was in, but at least he is not as deplorable Mrs. Engle, Cyrus, or even Mr. Liggett.(less)

While the 1st concentrated on Sarah being the main point of view with stories from Sylvia as another point of view, the 2nd book changed points of view frequently to allow an inside look to all the Elm Creek quilters. I liked this formula as it allows the reader to get to know the other character's thoughts and feelings much better as well as keeping the series from stagnating. I loved it! (less)

Being a Latter Day Saint- it is fun to see what thoughts and impressions famous people have about SLC and Mormons (LDS). My favorites included Cecil B. DeMille, Angela Lansbury, and Sharon Osbourne. This is not a religious read, edited by Rick Walton to entertain and uplift readers.(less)
