The main char**spoiler alert** This could have been a really cool book, but instead, for me, it was cheesy and didn't live up to the hype or reviews. The main character was pretty cute and her boyfriend was a very cool character (he was the only reason I kept reading).. It bothered me how quickly the characters were described and the story was built - it felt weak, I didn't find myself being attached to the characters. Even for being fiction, it just wasn't believable on a fictional level. I think if the author would have thought of more original paranormals like the boyfriend and developed the story and plot more - it would have been fabulous - this feels like a first draft to me. I don't like how in the dark the main character was about herself, and her whole perception of reality (and the author kept the reader this way, too) - I feel like some of the good decisions the main character made were luck, esp since she knew nothing. I did appreciate that this was clean. It could have been so much better. There were some cute parts, but then the cheesy vampires and werewolves kept coming into the picture, which this component always made the story feel weak. I like a stronger main character that has more of a clue and can be in control of making their decisions. There were too many holes in this and too many sighs.......more

The book takes place in Nantucket and It totally makes me want to go to Nantucket even more after reading this book! There are several things that are not believable in the relationships to me, but it's a nice little story if you need something light - which I did after reading two books about war and gore... lol ...more

It's an okay ending - I guess there is some redemption - but the damage that occurs to gain that is so horribly costly - it's just sad. I have to say that I LOVE the characters in this series, I just think the author gets carried away with the harsh environment... I won't ever read it again - but will loan it out to anyone who wants to borrow it. This was a dark, gory, and super depressing book. I need to go read something happy now and put this series behind me now...awk

I'm kinda shocked Katniss lived thru everything - can one person ::really:: endure THAT much horrible stuff mentally, emotionally and physically??? It was so depressing...
I have to say, I was happy when Katniss shot Coin instead of Snow... I think Coin was indeed evil and did have the whole plot to kill the Capital children for her own benefit - which is horrible and thank heavens Katniss made it so she could not be in power. I about fainted when Katniss voted for another Hunger Games, what was that? Just too weird. I guess she knew she was going to kill Coin and it didn't matter...
I'm sad that Gayle sealed his fate with the bomb killing Prim... I don't get how Peeta is just okay now and not a threat to Katniss, but at least Katniss ends up with one of her men, better then none, and after all her suicidal thoughts, I thought she would just die. The epiloge was half decent, it would have been nice if it was more then a page... at least Katniss and Peeta will have some happiness, although, Katniss is so traumatized (understandably so) that I don't know if she will ever love anyone again or really enjoy anything... it's just sad...awk......more

This definitely reminds me of the Hunger Games series, but it's still unique enough to be it's own series. It killed me how submissive all the characters were - but that's all they knew...also with how the Society works so hard to erase the past and control all the books, music, art with only what they want the new society to see that's not inspirational or encouraging people to think for themselves or take chances.
I knew something was off with the "not eat from the plate rule" from the grandfather - that was way too suspicious - and I knew the food was being poisoned.
I love that Cassia is realizing the Society has complete control of them in every way - and the food thing is crazy - who knows if the food is designed to have nutrients only for certain parts of the brain and keep other parts of the brain unused/dumb (with all their supposedly advanced technology). There's definitely more then meets the eye there...
I have a theory about the green tablets - I think they're designed to be addictive and to weaken the brain further, and possible encourage depression and anxiety attacks further encouraging their use and addiction...
Great characters! I loved both Xander and Ky and I still do not believe the Society had as much control over Ky and Cassia's relationship as they said. I think Cassia was targeted from the rebels fighting who somehow gained access of the Society's computer database and that they are behind it since Cassia is clearly so strong and smart and they want her on their side... Cassia prolly tests out for having capabilites to think for herself, etc.
The main Official that meets with Cassia about the match stuff rubbed me wrong from the first minute she met Cassia and felt untrustworthy to me, evil, and like she knew way more and was lying. I'm guessing she'll be a major character in the sequel and will be in charge of hunting down Cassia when she sets out to find Ky...I also think she will somehow be in a stronger and more powerful authoritative position to face off with Cassia and possibly be in charge of the entire Society Officials (possibly due to the rebels advancing in the war and killing off the current higher up Officials).
I also think Cassia's dad knows alot more than he's letting on, especially with his father's background (Cassia's grandfather). I almost think the grandfather has something to do with the Ky/match stuff and was possibly an inside guy for the rebels, and that her dad may be the new "go-to" guy for the rebels in the future.
Fun stuff and way less stressful (for me) than the Hunger Games series, I"m excited to read more, and I really like the author's writing style....more
