Plucky heroine, Yardley Van Dyke, faces a fiendish combination of family tensions, personal insecurities, and life-threatening cold. She is a teenager with whom any reader can identify.
The story tells parallel, multi-layered stories about Yardley, Marchand, her twin brother, and their companions. They experience the typical laughs, anxieties, and ups and downs of everyday life. Their trajectories, though, are riddled with moments of deathly seriousness as they are forced to confront the realities of Earth’s dwindling resources and the grave dangers of space travel. Caught between her attachment to her greenhouse in frigid California and her desire to join suave, intrepid Marchand LaFond on the intergalactic adventure of a lifetime, Yardley blossoms as a person, flourishes as an intellectual, and is physically transplanted to a new environment – as is her beloved vegetable garden.
A BRAND NEW ADDRESS mirrors both the wisdom and the awkwardness of teens with diverse personalities. In different ways Yardley and Marchand fight against the uglier aspects of human nature. Some are corrupt such as octogenarian CEO, her right hand man, and two unsavory jailbirds. Yardley and Marchand shield innocent young sisters who suddenly lose both parents. A BRAND NEW ADDRESS does not shy away from the sobering tragedies, the terrifying uncertainties, or the unfair nature of many of the challenges faced by both youths and adults. But far from a simple cautionary tale, A BRAND NEW ADDRESS is also a satisfying love story, an erudite romp through space, and a courageous call to protect the soaring potential of the human spirit. Not only did I get to revisit my earlier characters but I love Sylvia. She is a woman who has heart and has suffered. I can't say that if I was in her position, I would have handled the situation any better.
As the third book in the Executive Wives' Club series, this one hit closest to home. I know what it is like to have your children leave for college. At the same time as my youngest left for school, I also lost my father and moved across the country.
Life can be complicated. I can related to Sylvia's trials and it is wonderful to have a man in your life who can relate.
I hope you enjoy this book. I certainly loved writing it.(less)

Author Kathleen Rowland has penned an engrossing thriller that will keep you guessing through the end. A string of homeless men are buried up to the neck in sand. Residents pay close attention when the latest victim is a high school dropout. Like others trapped below the high tide mark, the teenager should have drowned, but he is alive when found weeks later. A strange bacterial infection found in each of the victims baffles doctors and angers the group of immortals that live quietly among the small town’s citizens. Secret immortal Mayor Cord Smith knows the reason for the victim’s survival is their immortality as they drown repeatedly without the release of death.
Filipina attorney Sophia Marie Mercola’s successful acquittal of a known thief has the town outraged. Her client’s release coincides with the latest attack, and the good citizens are now convinced she knows the cruel brute leaving his dirty work along the beach. The anger directed at Sophia brings her to the attention of Cord Smith, the handsome young mayor and father of Sophia’s student at a volunteer tutoring center. Cord protects Sophia, but his desire is shadowed by his immortality. In a small town, everyone and everything seem intertwined. When the ‘coincidences’ start adding up, Tara digs further into her clients’ backgrounds, and finds a connection with Cord’s first wife, his daughter’s mother. No one suspects the sadist who is a victim himself as he and his atrocious friend target Kerrigan. Will Sophia get there in time?
