Some great things about this text: easy to read and includes a handy glossary in the back. I didn't read the 100+ pages of endnotes, but now I've been exposed to the Mayan Creation myth. A fundamental task for my Native American traditions course.(less)

It's small, concise, and objective, offering a history of Buddhism and how it has traveled through nations. A very basic overview of key concepts and terms in Buddhism is also provided throughout. This is not a spiritual book like the other Buddhist texts I've read, and it's not meant to be. It's just what the title says: a very introduction to Buddhism. Well done!(less)

Amazing how few words actually need to be changed to create a different story. I deeply love the original classic, and I had a blast reading this revision! Wonderland was perfectly primed to be turned into Zombieland. From the revamped Tenniel sketches to the details of Alice's peculiar hunger, this book is quite entertaining. I would actually love to see it make it onto the big screen!(less)

Our cats and dogs really are amazing creatures. I plan to reread this many times!!!
"Allow nature to teach you stillness."
"When you pet a dog or listen to a cat purring, thinking may subside for a moment and a space of stillness arises within you, a doorway into Being."(less)

Steven Pressfield offers a no-non-sense approach to really achieving your ultimate goals, whatever they may be. The book is geared towards writers, but it applies to everyone: athletes, students, parents, artists. Everyone. He compares artists to warriors and shows us how to win our personal battles. We are all creators, and he shows us how to overcome resistance, tune into our higher self, become, and create. I imagine this book will speak to everyone on a deep level. I was especially delighted by this book as Pressfield discusses writing (something I've been neglecting to do recently for my own book!) and two other key elements to my personal studies: myth and depth psychology! This book is a MUST read for all my peers at Pacifica! You'll find references to The Bhagavad Gita (which inspired Pressfield's book The Legend of Bagger Vance), Jung, the ego and the self, Campbell's hero journey, The Greeks, The Muses, Aristotle's Poetics. This book has it all. I just finished reading it, and I'm already ready to reread it! So rich!! (less)

I'm always enamored with Nhat Hanh's books, but this one is really exceptional! It gets right into the best ways to create and maintain a home meditation spot and practice. It's filled with beautiful mantras and insight. It's just the book I needed as I set up a meditation spot in my new home. I will be returning to this book many times. It's a quick read, but it runs very deep. Strongly recommended for anyone interested in meditation and mindful living!(less)

Nice hard-bound comic book. But, I should've read more carefully... I thought it was an addition to Season 8, but it's to the Buffy comics that Joss wasn't involved with. The story was, well, lame. LOTS of historical and pop-culture goodies within!! Highly recommend!(less)

I guess I "cheated" a bit by downloading the audio book, but it was the only way I could squeeze it in with all my other readings. I was actually really pleased with the narrator and thought he really brought these myths to life. It was a fun read! Such rich myths in here. Also a chance for me to start trying to remember the names of Roman gods versus the Greek gods. Good mythic fun! Well, except for the occasional death and dismemberment.(less)
