I purchased this book a couple of years ago at a book fair, but for some reason, I never got around to picking it up. I recently read The Handmaid's TI purchased this book a couple of years ago at a book fair, but for some reason, I never got around to picking it up. I recently read The Handmaid's Tale by Atwood, and then was on the prowl for more of her work.
Though totally different from Handmaid, I loved this book! It actually started out kind of slow, but when Grace began to tell her story, I COULD NOT put it down! I carried it with me everywhere...to work, the park, the dinner table, the bathroom, and in the car for those long red lights! I was so into the story, it felt like I was actually there.
I loved the next to the last chapter, where it is all letters to and from the various characters. Atwood switches POV effortlessly and it made for a great read.
The ending did have an epilogue feel to it, but not in a cop-out kind of way. That this story was based on actual events made it all the more intriguing. I highly recommend this book!...more
