fast paced, enjoyable read! i read this one in a few short days, even with a six week old baby. i just didn't want to put it down!

i knew it was a dystopian YA novel (right up my alley) but i really didn't know much about it, other than it was really popular and a lot of my friends had liked it.
i'm no exception! i was hooked from the get go and really couldn't want to see what happened!
i love the main character, you really identify with her and i was rooting for her the whole time.
i do wish that some of the peripheral characters were fleshed out a little more. i think we learned a lot about four but i would have liked to hear more about jeannine or eric and even tris' parents background!
maybe we'll get more of that in the 2nd book ...more
wasn't super impressed with the first half of the book, i enjoyed part two (when he lived in paris & wrote about learning the language) a lot morewasn't super impressed with the first half of the book, i enjoyed part two (when he lived in paris & wrote about learning the language) a lot more
the essays i enjoyed the most:
go carolina the great leap forward the learning curve i pledge allegiance to the bag see you again yesterday me talk pretty one day jesus shaves make that a double smart guy i'll eat what he's wearing
i feel like some of the stories were really exaggerate, but i guess i will have no way of knowing that for sure! it was a fast enjoyable read but not laugh out loud funny as i was hoping, just amusing at times ...more
**spoiler alert** DO NOT READ ON AFTER THIS POINT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED
was completely absorbed in this story until**spoiler alert** DO NOT READ ON AFTER THIS POINT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED
was completely absorbed in this story until we got about 100 pages in, really until they escaped, which is right around 100 pages in more or less. i just had so much grief with the book after that point, it really took away from the story for me. don't get me wrong, i still highly enjoyed it and found it a very compelling and interesting read but it's definitely not a 4 star book for me
- the escape was completely unbelievable. there is no effing a way a five year old kid as sheltered as Jack was going to be able to pull off the feat he did jumping out of a car, and playing dead. also, i found it extremely hard to believe that Old Nick is just going to "listen" to Ma and be like oh yeah, kid's dead, let me just go dispose of that there body across town, la dee dah. Um, no.
- did not believe at all that a woman in a mental hospital would have access to her meds so that she could just swallow them all and overdose.
-Found it hard to believe that Jack would be willing to "just leave" his ma, all that he has EVER KNOWN in the whole wide world and go to the mbuseum with people he jsut barely met.... i don't know, i just don't see it happening.
i am willing to suspend a little belief in books and i would have looked past the crazy escape from Room but i think it went a little far (for me) and i just couldn't enjoy the book as much.
for my own reference, since i always forget endings, they go back to Room after they are living on their own in an apartment (in some type of assisted living facility) and Jack says goodbye to Room and then they leave and it's like they are "leaving it all behind them" symbolically or some such thing.
an interesting book, fascinating viewpoint, interesting story, but i just couldn't suspend belief enough for certain things.
thoughts so far 4/28: a little over the halfway point. really enjoying this one. at first i wasn't sure how i would**spoiler alert** SPOILERS AHOY!!!

some thoughts, it drives me insane how lennie calls bailey, bails. this is probably just something that aggravates me b/c i am weird.
the moment when joe saw her kissing toby - OMG
and when we found out bailey was pregnant when she died....OMG.
i hope she resolves things with joe and i'm curious if she ever will find her mom.
