Dara S. Sometimes if they are wildly popular it is hard to get them at the library in the allotted time.

Nikki How about kindle?

message 3: by Bill (new)

Bill I think it should be lowest common denominator; i.e. paperbacks should be available. I'm probably in the minority, but I don't know that everyone has electronic book capability and some probably still feel hard covers might be too expensive.

message 4: by Shawna (new)

Shawna As long as one of the two books chosen is available in paperback.

Well maybe the polls weren't a good idea. Lol.

Bill The polls are a good idea. It gives you some perspective on what people are thinking. ultimately, once books are chosen, there will be discussion on them by those folks who voted for them. :0)

megs The problem is that you're never going to please everybody, but if most people are happy then count it as a win.

I think the "problem" with the newer books is that there have been a fair number of books that have come out this year that a lot of people seem to want to read (everything from 11/22/63 to The Casual Vacancy) that many people are going to vote for those, if they're able, because they're new, exciting, and eagerly anticipated, over something that's been out for awhile.

Figure a book like The Casual Vacancy a lot of people are going to read and talk about right when it comes out.

Shawna I think the polls are great idea MarBear!

Bill, I'm with you! Second this motion :)

message 11: by 19Gray72 (new)

19Gray72 I think one of each is a great idea. That allows all to participate!

message 12: by Shawna (new)

Shawna You could have two polls per month. One for new books and one for paperbacks and read the top book in each category. That way you're guaranteed to have one of each which would please both kindle owners and those of us who use the library :)
