Geoffrey My first choice would be a Member's Choice and a Theme book.

message 2: by Alex (new)

Alex Dodds I reccomend the above option

message 3: by Sovotchka (new)

Sovotchka I think having a new book as a must-read would keep it more interesting. I have to say I often groan when I see a book nominated that I have read more than five years ago.

I agree with Raindrops. New stuff would be good too.

Elise Either way it goes, I just like the option of having two books to read because in case I don't want to read one of them, I can always choose the other.

★ jazz ★ New books are great but the problem with just released books for people who use the library (like me) is--the library MAY get it in 6 months. I have even had to request books for the library to buy. So I don't get to read a BOM if it's too new.

There is another option to think about. That is having a series as a choice and going through the series one book a month and the second choice being either a poll, classic, or theme book.

Just a thought.

Nobody ever takes into consideration the availability of new books at libraries, where there could be a long line waiting on new books that could more than a couple of month to get it.

I don't think the club is going to do a series any time soon because it has a sister club, doing that.

Helen Mod
I hadn't thought about a book being too new. I guess if it isn't available in the UK then I read the alternative book.

message 10: by Lilyan (new)

Lilyan Can you please clarify what stands for a classic? and what is a "themed" book?

message 11: by Brian (new)

Brian Dorricott Kevin... could you direct me to this "sister" group that is doing "series" I have been mostly reading series' this year and maybe I might join there.

Sandra Lilyan wrote: "Can you please clarify what stands for a classic? and what is a "themed" book?"

I would classify 'classic' as standard epic fantasy. Themed could be anything - YA, steampunk, dystopian, fairies, zombies, demons, etc. That sort of thing.

True, Kevin, but not only that, there are those of us who are trying to read from our own books. To me, the top two books in the normal poll are just more of the same. Most of the books that usually win seem like newer books.

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (True Book Addict) I think people are thinking classics are like classic literature and that's why no one is voting for that option. Thanks for the clarification, Sandra.

message 16: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Man, it looks like we might have a tie! I guess we'll have to alternate months. I'm interested that no one seems to want to do the group author thing.

I like this series idea best.

message 18: by Evilynn (new)

Evilynn I voted for random book and a new book, but I'd actually like new book and theme book (which wasn't on the poll ;)), unless we'd alternate, so theme book + new book, theme book + classic, theme book + member's choice etc. Maybe that's too much extra work for the admins?
