Poll

okay. it was close, but the top three won the rights to the re-poll. again - we are going to read whichever one wins this poll, and then write reviews for it, and then compare the reviews to see what kinds of things readers responded to, and have a little discussion.

please only vote if you have the time to read/review and discuss, okay? love you all.

then i give up. completely

message 4: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Vote early vote often. Night circus shall vanquish its foes

message 5: by Katie (new)

Katie Well, if it were to happen, it would make sense to read The Night Circus, since that will have been (I always mocked this tense in Spanish, guess I do need it sometimes) in the top two twice. I am not just saying that because that was the book that got my vote...okay, maybe, but it is good logic.

karen Mod
yeah - what happened to all the harper lee fans?

message 7: by Tuck (new)

Tuck i never win, so there will be no need for double tie breaker, i can smell the elephant shit from here.

I cheated and changed my vote when it was apparent that Mockingbird was not going to win. :p

there is still a week to go!! don't give up!!!

message 10: by Micha (new)

Micha We could always choose whichever one gets no. 1 and then read no.2 directly afterward. Is that too easy or medieval?

message 11: by karen (new)

karen Mod
hahah no, not at all - i didn't know how much commitment people were going to have. i didn't want to presume.

message 12: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine i think the other list was long and overwhelming so people couldn't really process all the titles so harper lee stood out as something "they've been meaning to read" but three books you can process and decide so it gets less of the overwhelmed vote. (just a theory)

message 13: by Micha (new)

Micha Exactly. I've been meaning to read both The Night Circus and The Secret History, but the former was first on the list, so I've voted for that first, but I would be happy to read both! ^_^

Elaine Thomas wrote: "i assume we'll read the secret history."
You mean, we have to read it AGAIN? I read it about 5 years ago and still haven't gotten over it!

message 15: by Elaine (new)

Elaine I voted for The Secret History because any book which can still evoke emotions 5 years or more after you've read it, is important--and good.

message 16: by Micha (last edited Mar 10, 2012 07:35PM) (new)

Micha Oddly enough, I've just read that one of Erin Morgenstern's (the author of The Night Circus) favourite books is The Secret History...

message 17: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine I think no matter what wins we should read the second book in the iron seas series.

message 18: by Micha (new)

Micha HEHEHE! I 'jumped ahead' and already began reading The Night Circus... So by the time we finish this debate I can probably start The Secret History! ^_^

message 19: by Elaine (new)

Elaine so, which do I buy: the secret history (my paper version is home and I'm not) or the night circus?

message 20: by karen (new)

karen Mod
the poll ends on wednesday. we will know then.

message 21: by karen (new)

karen Mod
okay! night circus it is!

is three weeks enough time for everyone to obtain/read this?

message 22: by Tuck (new)

Tuck um..my lion cage whip is out for repairs, so will be close.

message 23: by karen (new)

karen Mod
so three weeks is adequate?

message 24: by karen (new)

karen Mod
well, the reviews aren't necessarily going to be RA reviews - i just want people to write reviews that are natural to how they want to talk about the book, and then we can see how people actually talk about books, and what they place value or emphasis on, not necessarily the things that traditional RA tells you to value. it is very free-form.

message 25: by karen (new)

karen Mod
yes - regular old review is exactly what we want here. you just express yourself the way you want to.
