And if one has book groups that meet in person but not on goodreads as well as book groups on goodreads? This doesn't seem to be an option.
Yes, I have a book club that meets in person AND is on Goodreads, and I participate in several online clubs at Goodreads too. So, I chose real world but I'd like the option Elizabeth mentions too; if it was there, I'd use it.

But we don't talk about books... it's purely social and fun.
I am a member of three book groups - one which has turned into "an evening at the pub" group, another that hardly ever meets because we have such differing tastes in books and the rows end up personal and the third is fun, but not a lot of talking about the book...

:O)
Yes, and we're listed on Goodreads . . . but I have to say the only reason for that is because I wanted to experiment with the interface. It doesn't really add anything to our book club experience, and most attendees aren't Goodreads users. I was hoping it might be useful for attracting new members, but so far the only people to join the group who weren't already attending meetings are from other countries. Since basically all the Goodreads group does is provide a schedule of upcoming in-person discussions, I have to wonder what they're getting out of it.
Like other commenters, I'm missing the option for both! (GR book club and real life with no group on here)
I'm not currently in any book club, but the option "I don't participate in book clubs at all" seemed innacurate, as I have recently been in one and wouldn't mind being in one again.
My hope with this poll was more to see how many members are in a book club that meets in real life. I just added all the other options for some more interesting options, but if you meet with a book club in real life, that's what I was interested in knowing. Not sure if that helps anyone give an accurate answer.
Patrick, I think that's how I figured it actually, and why I answered as I did: yes, and we (my real world book club) have a group on Goodreads too.
@nia: i presume you're saying ' i hear it's a good book club' hehehe.. Indeed, last year, goodreads indonesia held a book club gathering to talks about books with authors and other speakers once a month.. They also had some activities during the years, e.g: visiting library, talks about a book in a zoo with the children, charities, culinairy, and even karaoke! The summit is on dec, they had indonesian readers festival, where some participants (readers, community) got to show their book collections, bookswap, watch movies based on books, etc.. So yes, it's a good book club, i think.. He3
I chose "no I don't participate" because I think to say you are part of a book club means you read certain books together with other people at the same time and discuss them. I make no promises that I will ever do such a thing. Also you have to choose what books you'll read as a group and then stick to the list and read even the ones you don't care for? Does not sound like fun at all. I've looked at book clubs' lists before and I think I could show up once a year at best for the one book I liked and then the rest of the year they'd pay me to stay away!!!
Never been a member of a book club. It would be a blast though!!! I usually just read the same books as friends and discuss them with that person. It's better than nothing!
I attempted to participate in a 'Book Club' locally, I failed to realize 'Book Club' meant meet once a week to drink and bitch about our lives. Also, I read A LOT, I like GR's because I have friends that can keep up with me and I keep up with them. Instead of IRL I read 8 books in a week, I'd forget about the book club book by the time drinking Monday showed up.
I'm part of multiple groups that may consider themselves book clubs, but I've found I'm horrible about reading books on demand, so I've rarely participated in monthly reads.
I am a member of several online book clubs - a book a month club - a classical book a month club etc. I should really post all read on GOODREADS - I have no time to meet in person with a club and deal with a book that I am not interested in - My online clubs have suggested monthly reads but we also read and post about what else we are currently reading

Yes, it's made mostly of women who attend church with me. It's a blast! Not sure how to organize it on Goodreads, but I'm interested.

I belong to two book clubs, that are very different. we both meet in real life, but aren't on good reads!

We tried to have a Goodreads page for our book club, but nobody was really interested after a couple months. Too bad, it's a perfect forum for book clubs!
I *make* my book club members use Goodreads. We do email too and there is also another web site (the organization with which we're affiliated) where I post a bit too, but most of our activity is here at Goodreads. Some of the members use it only for the book club but some use Goodreads for other books/reviews/making friends/etc. too.
I have a book group I run!! :) I use goodreads but never put our group on here, but I'm thinking that would be kinda neat so I'm about to add it here!! :))
i actually don't know of one in my area... i wish i did though... would introduce me to so many different books
I belong to a book club through our local library. The library gets the books for all of us to read, through inter-library loans, though it's not alwayas possible to get enough. We can't get the newer books, and this past year they have been getting us books we haven't voted on. Unfortunately, several of those books weren't ones I liked. I don't read books I don't like, because there are too many others I want to read. We DO discuss the books, and there are a lot of different opinions on them. It's very interesting how some people love some of the books, while others don't like them at all.
