He is also not a bee, which makes him less polarizing."

added by Sheala"A logo idea for a reading character. Dragons seem the most fantastical and literary of fairy tale creatures. I like the young dragon, because some of my earliest memories are of being read to and it certainly affected my life."
added by Rane Aria"Meet Arthur (Lord Crow) with his jaunty scarf and monocular, and being a crow (one of the smartest birds in the world) enjoys reading about problem solving and mysteries! "
added by Martina Estrely"This is Wellington, the fierce (but cute) hound from Booksville ^^
He loves to read, his favorite author is James Herriot :)"
added by Caramelle"Hello,
My name is Ephesus 'Effie' Zenodotus.
I was named after the ancient Greek city - Ephesus - where my great ancestor who was noted to be one of the first librarians of the Library of Alexandria - Zenodotus of Ephesus - was from.
The love of books has been passed down from generation to generation. Now as a librarian, I hope to pass my passion for books to other creative minds!"
added by Fatma Elbabour"This is "Magic Mark"! It's a bookmark but not like any one it's Magic Mark!
(HAVE A MAGICAL READING WITH Magic Mark)
Magic Mark can form GOODREADS letters in many different shapes and colors using it's magic stick, take a look at the other ones in my photos. ^^"
added by Paul Hiscock"Nibs the elephant loves to read books of all genres and to organise his collection"
added by Nicola Armitt"This is a little cartoon I drew for the competition, showing the Goodreads Goodworm enjoying his favourite books"
added by Bo Hoefinger"I am the first dog to have his memoir nationally published in non-fiction, not bad for a writer in a fur suit. I love to write and blog, which isn't easy with unopposable paws. When I'm not doing that I have a book in these oversized mitts I possess. These qualities are what would make me a great mascot for goodreads. Did I mention I'm extremely good looking? Woof!"
added by Varad"Booky is your friendly Book-Genie.. He believes in spreading the joy of reading books. "
added by Rachel"My cat loves to lay on my books. Sometimes she'll stare at me over the cover of one until I put it down for her to lay on."

I wanted to vote for one of the animals but needed more inspiration with what their thoughts were so went with the icon that spoke to me the loudest...thanks for allowing us to vote Goodreads. I love this site!!!!
I wish I had known about this! I have a great picture of one of my cats sleeping on Red Dragon, with a bunch of other books in the background. Can't wait to see the winner.
I like the first cat and book, the cat and heart shaped pages, the dog with glasses, the bee, and the hedgehog.
I voted for the cute calico kitty!!! I have 2 calico cats one has a yellow stripe right in between her ears like a tiger! MEOW
So since this mascot is gonna be incorporated onto a t-shirt, not on the site, we should be voting for something we'd be willing to wear! That kinda changes things a little :)
I voted for Markus -- but what I'd like to see if Markus is chosen is Markus on the back of the shirt with the likes - dislikes - loves just as it appears on the Markus entry above. then on the left front of the shirt a smaller Markus atop the goodreads web address or the name in the font as it appears on the home page. It's simple and colorful much like the site itself.

given some of the...challenged...entries listed here, i'd pay cash money to see the list of entrants Goodreads had to disqualify.

that should cover most of them
These were great! I loved the cat peering from behind heart shaped pages, the dog with glasses, and Marcus the bookie, but in the end I had to go with Bumble the Goodreads Bee.
I just hope the look of the website stays the same because I really like it. It's simple and neutral, easy on the eyes. Actually... skins wouldn't be a bad idea if that became an issue.
Winston. And not just because I feel a little Redwall nostalgia when I see hedgehogs, but also because I think Winston's classy and natural look really jives with the GR aesthetic. Winston all the way.
Ashley wrote: "I just hope the look of the website stays the same because I really like it."This will definitely not change that.
I can believe that someone vote for mine :-DThank you all!
Mine vote is for the cat and the book, Melanie mascot... Amazing... Really a wonderful image!!!!
I like the cat (or was that a wee baby tiger?) by Megan and the crow with the scarf (or was that a tie?).But the cat wasn't doing anything bookish. And the crow was not drawn very well. So.....Undecided.
...these mascots are fugly. Why does goodreads even need one of these half-assed "mascots" - it would just look more camp. The website looks classy enough the way it is at the moment...
i'm honestly curious... why does everyone like the bee so much?i love the cat peeking through the turned book pages, it's a gorgeous picture... but as a mascot, i think of something more along the lines of a cartoon image so i chose the book with its tongue lolling out...
go Markus, go Markus, woot, woot, woot, woot!
