James Marsh Without question I'd love to see Brave New World done right!

Note that I tried to stay away from authors like Philip K Dick because there are about 4 films about and "by" him coming out soon. I also really wanted to add The Time Traveler's Wife and In the Country of Last Things but those are getting made as we speak.

If I get a lot of requests for any important titles that I obviously whiffed on, I'll edit and add them on.

Yeah, I almost didnt include Brave New World because it has been done twice, but both versions were made-for-TV and have a combined less than 1000 votes on imdb.com so I figured lets start fresh on that one.

LOL! I made this poll and *I* cant decide what I want to pick. Wow....

I finally decided to go with Cat's Cradle. It was tough though. I thought of the epic tearjerkeryness of Earth Abides and I thought of what a wonderful statement could be made by Behold The Man, but overall I have to go with the quirkiness and otherworldliness of Cat's Cradle. I would love to see the island, the quirky characters (the brother and sister characters especially), and of course...**SPOILER below**

**HERE BE SPOILERS**

seeing everything ice over at the end would be awesome

Evils Awwwww but I like Uwe Boll ????? ;-)

You should start a thread about Cat's Cradle, Ubik. I know nothing about it or any other of Vonnegut's novels...although I'm aware OF them. I had to vote for Brave New World since that's the only one I'm familiar with.

TeraD Brave New World for sure. Huxley was a fascinating guy.

message 7: by Sandi (new)

Sandi I love "Doomsday Book" and I think most of Connie Willis' work is ideally suited for film adaptation.

I'd like to THE SIRENS OF TITAN before CAT'S CRADLE. But who should direct? Terry Gilliam? Guillermo del Toro? Richard Kelly?

message 5: by Ubik (new)

Ubik Mod
Big fat NO on Del Toro for the adaptation! He's over the top and not necessary. Off the top of my head, Id say maybe Spike Jonze, Iain Softley, or Gilliam of course

I forgot about Spike Jonze. He may have the quirky humor and cinematic vision necessary to make a Vonnegut film!

message 3: by Ubik (new)

Ubik Mod
Definitely! You need the half realism/surrealism blend of Jonze for his stuff...at least in my minds eye...

I went with 'Earth Abides' though it was a tough choice.
My decision was really about wanting to see the characters, landscape and ambition of the novel on screen.
I'm not sure if it would be a hit at all but the societal regression (progression if you wanna' argue it's case!) and anthropoliogcal observations are, to me, as interesting as any spectacular FX laden effort.
Directed by...hmmm, I'm gonna go with a person who concentrates purely on characters and circumstances that change who they are; Thomas McCarthy.

Manuel Brave New World for sure.

I saw a TV production of it, but it was far from adequate for such a giant novel of science fiction.
