Petra X I'm not voting for any of them. At least one Dickens book a year was inflicted on me in school and I loathed every single tedious word of them all. I am not sure if Dickens was spoiled for me by school or if I wouldn't have liked him anyway.

But different strokes for different folks and I hope all those that do read him, enjoy the book.

Fiona What one did you read? Unfortunately Tale of Two Cities has quite a few votes - hated that one - had that been my first Dickens I don't think I'd have carried on either.

Fiona My school didn't inflict any Dickens on us. I think my school, so as not to bore us with books made sure we barey read more then two books a year.

Donna I just couldn't decide. I went for Hard Times becauise it's on my ABD list. I have just brought David Copperfield and I also have A Tale of Two Cities waiting to be read.

Two books a year? Wow. I am unimpressed. I read 1 book a term for English and then 2 books a term for Special or Gen (I forget) English. That's 6 a year which is also unimpressive.

I've read Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations. One a year. I also have a faint memory of Dombey and Son. I started, but never finished, the Pickwick Papers, inspired by Jo of Little Women.

Vicky I had to read Great Expectations in ninth grade. I just reread it and was impressed by how much I forgot and how much better it was. I read A Tale of Two Cities as an adult and liked it. I have Pickwick Papers but haven't read it yet.

Fiona Interesting ones running up... I wonder which'll be the third? Three possabilities. I think The Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol are possibly the most obvious winners...

(well until now, I've just changed my vote!)
