Should YA Romance Be a No-Sex Zone?

You can Join the Discussion Here:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

No! As long as it is not graphic. Teens are going to have sex and it is unrealistic if the characters in YA books don't! Sex is the natural progression in a relationship. (write-in)

Don't have a Problem With it.

  123 votes, 6.6%

not too big of a deal but i would really like one clean book once in a while and those are becoming as rare as gold

  111 votes, 5.9%

Depends. If the characters are in love and at the right age then sure. It just shouldn't be too graphic. (write-in)

  94 votes, 5.0%

Yes.

  78 votes, 4.2%

It depends on the age of the characters. No sex if they are under 18.

  60 votes, 3.2%

I don't mind it but I don't think kids who are younger than 13 should read it. But teenagers have to know about sex, so...

  58 votes, 3.1%

If it's naturally a part of the story and not overly graphic. But I do not support glorifying sex to the YA audience just because... (write-in)

  52 votes, 2.8%

I think it's OK because sometimes you want the couple to 'take the next stage'. But I don't want a full on report over six pages, just a cute and short description (write-in)

  51 votes, 2.7%

I think it's okay for older teens as long as it's more of a "fade to black" thing.

  49 votes, 2.6%

Perhaps what we need is a new genre for YA with sex. Something between YA and New Adult and aimed at 15 or 16+ readers. (write-in)

  40 votes, 2.1%

No, but in an ideal world only kids 15 and older could read them (I would have my kid wait til high school to read sex scenes *not too graphic*) (write-in)

  37 votes, 2.0%

Unsure. (suggested by Miki)

Not totally, some people want to read those parts. (write-in)

  35 votes, 1.9%

Yeah! (write-in)

  31 votes, 1.7%

yes since YA includes 13 year olds who I hope would be a little confused. Love interest os OK sex...no (write-in)

  31 votes, 1.7%

Im not sure!!!!

  31 votes, 1.7%

I think that people put to much into sex. I started my period at 11 and I mean true ya is for ages 14/15 and up so I think its fine as long as its not to graphic. We dont need that in YA

  24 votes, 1.3%

I think it is fine but nothing graphic. (write-in)

  22 votes, 1.2%

Kinda, but I wish realistic fiction had less... (write-in)

  14 votes, 0.7%

I'm not comfortable with that being in YA books sure it happens but doesn't mean we have to read about it (write-in)

  10 votes, 0.5%

Not for under 18 (write-in)

  8 votes, 0.4%

As long as they are married to each other I don't have a problem with it (write-in)

  6 votes, 0.3%

Yes, but I don't want a graphic description. (write-in)

  4 votes, 0.2%

No, I'd rather not see it. Teenager need to learn that from their parents, not glorified in a book.
