Hmmm about The Zanzibar Chest.... what are your thoughts on it? I started reading it but then stopped cos I got a bit put off by Hartley's seeming pompousness. He has a very COLONIAL mentality that still exists in abundance.... I didn't get very far into it, perhaps about 1/4 way into it and I haven't been moved to pick it up again, though I may give it another shot.... What do you think?

It's got some really interesting insights into being a journalist in a warzone, is what I remember. I read it in Darfur when I was there for the first time and I thought he captured the arrogance and adrenaline of the relief worker. Also thought the colognialism angle was well explored. If you are on safari in Africa you ought to see what the colonials are really like by reading them!
