I read the first one and didn't feel compelled to finish the trilogy/series
For everyone who misses the days when a book was a book, a trilogy was a trilogy and movies were based on screenplays.

I really hate it when you think your going to love it and you end up not bothering to look for the next book and finaly get caught up in something else i always try to finish what i start!

aaw city of bones, vampire academy n moon called is in the list. oh well, we all got different taste.
some of the books on this list i DO NOT agree with, but there are some that i do as well. i feel that a book should live up to its hype, and some are just a dissapapiontment.
Did the title of this list change? I thought it dealt with continuing to read a series or sequel? Otherwise I have to take back all my votes.
Ok. If the title stays this way, I take my votes back. It would be misleading, because I finished all the books I listed.
i read this book called naughts and crossees, and i really liked it, but then i realized that there were more, os i amazoned them. they didnt look nearly as good as the other ones. the story line was kinda weak, therefor i decided to treat the book as a standalone because i feel that the author cant carry the story on well considering one of the main characters dies at the end.

You're an idiot for saying everyone has their own opinion and bashing on someone else for putting theirs.
I may be the only one, but the second half of The Girl with Dragon Tattoo totally left me flat and killed any interest in continuing this trilogy. It devolved into spectacle rather than rising to literature.
Wtf!! Half of these books are my fav!! Who ever made this list is WRONG! lol..but that's my opinion (:
It's a collaborative list; many people have voted on it. You can add your votes at "add votes to list" next to "all votes" at the top of the list.
I deleted Beastly. It is a fairytale retelling that does not have a sequel. All retellings by Flinn are stand-alones. If you do not like the book you can vote for it in another list.

I promise the rest of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich are much funnier than the first book. I'm glad that I stuck with it. Of course, the last few haven't been as good as the others. However, the Stephanie Plum series is perfect if you're looking for a easy read with lots of laughs.
OMG I actually LOVE alot of these books! what.the.hell. But..as everyone says, each person has their own opinions.

I'm sad to see The Golden Compass on this list. When the book first came out it was marvelous, intriguing, and different from most books out there. And if you gave the series a chance, you know how good the second and third books get and how wildly, but fascinatingly different they were from the first. So if you havent read The Subtle Knife, go back and give it a try. I think it's even better than the first. Also, so sad seeing HP on this list. Some people seem to hate popular books for no good reasons, then there's cases where some popular books shouldnt be popular, but HP is definitely not that case. I've read the books so many times that I hardly read the first two anymore, but they are still fantastic and what got me started really reading, what 12 years ago now?
There are more that shouldnt be on this list as well, but those two really shocked me. Oh well, to each his own.
I think if your going to put down a book you should at least read it so you can knw what your talking about
I think the point of this list is that we read the first one and as a result weren't interested in the sequels.

Well, the Host is listed as the first in a series (the second volume I think is due out next year) - perhaps they are indicating they have no interest in these future sequels?
Some i don't agree with... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The In Death series, and The Bourne Identity for example... but in general, this list is RIGHT ON. I mean, I couldn't even finish Vampire Dairies, it was so awful.(But that's just my personal opinion. Fans, please don't flame me.:\ )

i'm surprised Harry Potter isn't on this listi know its a good book and others love both the movies & books too, but i don't have any intentions of ever reading the books and sadly i never really got into the movies either. i think i only saw the first one and a lil of the second one. i guess i just couldn't jump on the bandwagon and get into the hype. :(
You could add Harry Potter; it's easy to add books to lists. Up at the top of the list, at the tab next to the one reading "all votes."
People seem to be complaining about how certain series are on here, but they loved them etc. It's more of a matter of taste rather than a matter of which series are ACTUALLY good and which aren't. See I wouldn't add Harry Potter, because its one of my favourite series...But I know tons of people (sadly) who never got made it past the first or second book.
Some books really should not be on this list, like the Hunger Games, Artemis Fowl and Raven's Gate. But OK, that's my opinion.
The only problem with quitting a series after the first book, is that usually the series increases in awesomeness as it goes. If it's a long series (harry potter) the first book is a lot of explanation. BUt sometimes if the characters aren't interesting, or the writing style really bugs you, or the whole idea is not appealing, than yeah, there's no need for you to feel like you need to finish the series. But if it's just more of a "ehhh that wasn't great but it wasn't horrible" then probably continuing and reading the rest would be a good idea, and it would grow to be something you really like (or not. some series go REALLY downhill).
Same With the "Uglies". Even if you didnt like it you had to read the next one to find out what happend to Tally.
Is there a second book after The Host? I don't think so. It needs to be deleted. There is also another book here that does not have a second book.
flag as offensive (?)

Maybe I should start a list with the title books from a series that don't incline you to seek out the first because so often I have stories from the middle/end rather than the first.
Hahahah - reading life is just so much fun innit?!
