Nichole (Dirty H) Sorry to the two people who voted for the Bible and the Book of Mormon, but in addition to the fact that they are not m/m romance books, they were definitely not published for the first time in 2009 so they do not fit the criteria for this list. I had to remove them.

Rebekah I find it odd that 13 people voted for Veiled Security, but it has only been rated 7 times. Does that mean that half of the people that read it didn't rate it? I'm confused. (I just added it to my to-read list)

I think they were really voting for the author and not the book since the list is for the best new author of 2009.

I would argue that the Bible is MM Romance...1 Dom, 12 subs disciples, hanging out together with no women. All those gladiators, masters and virgins. *wicked grin*

LOL. Good one, Michael.

That makes sense. Thanks, Eyre.

message 7: by Shayne (new)

Shayne I didn't know that Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin was a M/M romance. I didn't know it was written in 2009 either...LMAO! I think there are several others that are on the list that aren't M/M authors as well, including Ms. Austin.

Oh boy... who knew this list was going to require so much babysitting?

Wow, I would've actually finished P&P if it had been an M/M romance. I just didn't like that book as much as everyone else. (I know that P&P is sacred, so go ahead and throw stuff at me.)

I'm not a P&P fan either

Even more odd is that most of those who voted for it had no friends or books on goodreads.

message 12: by Josh (new)

Josh I liked watching the A and E version of P and P. Colin Firth was/is so sexy! *walks over and stands next to Eyre and Ivan* I can live without the book, too.

I have my suspicions about this, Rebekah. I looked at the people who voted for it, and more than half of them joined goodreads either in December '09 or January '10, have zero books, zero friends and live in either Italy or Germany. I'm not going to question it or mess with it because it's not like this is the Olympics or anything. But I've got my eye on that one. ;)

That is weird! I didn't even think to look at them when I read Rebekah's comment. Hmm . . . Ivan, put on on your Sherlock Holmes' hat and do some detecting.

The same type of voting by people with no books at all got the book to #1 on this list. In fact, other than joining GR, voting for this book on the two lists is the only activity by most of these voters. Plus, the votes were all on the same days.

Oh, it's a m/m romance, if you watch the Colin Firth A&E movie version with the right perspective. *G* There are definite undertones in the movie that don't come through very well in the book. It's better to not watch the end, then you can pretend Darcy and Bingley ditched Lizzie and Jane, and instead hooked up with each other.

And I promise not to throw anything at Eyre, Ivan and Josh for not liking P&P. ;)

message 16: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah My husband is very excited to read the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and I have to admit, it looks pretty funny.

Rebekah Ivan wrote: "Even more odd is that most of those who voted for it had no friends or books on goodreads. "

Oh, you're right. I didn't even think to look to see who voted. It looks like someone is creating users just to vote on the book. That's really stupid.

Nichole (Dirty H) What I don't get is why you would create users, or recruit friends or whatever, to vote a book onto a Listopia list, but not rate it or leave a glowing review. Or collect GR friends to whom you can rave about it.
