Dude, Where's My Forehead?
I've noticed a (kind of disturbing) trend of book covers where a person is pictured, but their face is cut off from the nose up. Don't these poor people have eyes? And foreheads?

To add a specific cover edition, search by ISBN.

Covers should not include the eyes or foreheads of the cover model. Headless characters are okay if the neck or shoulders are depicted.

See also the Headless Women listopia for more anonymizing cover trends.

Morgan F I am glad that I'm not the only person who notices the lack of face some of these people have. Are they concerned that we will see the eyes and be like "OH NO! These people don't have the eyes I imagined them to have! I hate this book now! I shall spit on it!"?

message 2: by Erica (daydreamer) (last edited Nov 14, 2009 03:44PM) (new)

Erica (daydreamer) This is a hilarious list! I've never thought of it before, although I've read several books without foreheads. Ha!

message 3: by Maddie (new)

Maddie Wow, that's really strange...
Maybe it's because it gives a sense of the setting/clothing/era/mood or whatever without messing up the way the reader imagines the character who appears on the cover.

message 4: by Emily (new)

Emily i love it kels! :)

message 5: by Silver (new)

Silver This is really funny, never really thought about it before.

message 15: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie LOL! THANK YOU! These covers have been driving me insane lately!

message 16: by Faith (new)

Faith I know how you feel! I mean, why put a person on a book if you're not even going to show their whole face? Why even PUT a person on a book? I prefer no people on book covers at all.

message 17: by Anna (last edited Mar 17, 2010 03:46PM) (new)

Anna Banana lolz :) It's like none of them have a personality :P Jeez there are dogs on it too!

Devan, Sarcasm Expert I saw the Other Boleyn Girl and kind of thought there was a good reason the picture didn't have a head.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Devan wrote: "I saw the Other Boleyn Girl and kind of thought there was a good reason the picture didn't have a head."

Lol!

On the other hand, I think the "other" part of the title refers to Mary Boleyn, the one who kept a head.

message 20: by drowningmermaid (new)

drowningmermaid On the other hand, I think the "other" part of the title refers to Mary Boleyn, the one who kept a head. "

At least, she kept it until 2001, when she was summarily half-decapitated by Scribner Books.

message 23: by ♫NicNac♫ (new)

♫NicNac♫ I never really noticed it before, but when you point it out, it's really obvious!!!!!!!!!

message 24: by David (last edited May 05, 2010 10:31AM) (new)

David Jordan Whoever dreamed up this design technique should apply it to some books like Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities," in which people actually get their heads chopped off.

message 25: by Leslie (new)

Leslie lol the idea for this list is hilarious!

message 26: by Alison (new)

Alison Evans This is hilarious xD

message 27: by Teresa (new)

Teresa i would have voted all the books if i had enough time xD
buh this list is funny, and so, so true.

message 28: by Sheryl (new)

Sheryl Very funny! And I've just noticed that the book I'm currently reading and a handful of books I've just finished also featured a half-head person.

message 29: by D.G. (new)

D.G. LOLOLOL!

message 30: by Julie (new)

Julie S. That's funny. Nice list.

message 31: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Can anyone explain why the Twilight books are on this list? I'm inclined to remove them as their covers don't even remotely fit into this category.

message 32: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (last edited Jul 21, 2010 10:08AM) (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Twilight itself I can see, as it has the arms. Midnight Sun, New Moon, Breaking Dawn, and Eclipse are not even close, though.

City of Fallen Angels doesn't look like it has any body parts at all on its cover, either.

message 33: by Hayes (new)

Hayes Oh go ahead... give Twilight the chop too!

message 34: by Alexandra (last edited Aug 04, 2010 02:19PM) (new)

Alexandra Cannon Morgan wrote: "I am glad that I'm not the only person who notices the lack of face some of these people have. Are they concerned that we will see the eyes and be like "OH NO! These people don't have the eyes I ..."
LMAO! Funny comment! Maybe the characters are secretly REALLY self-conscious about their bushy eyebrows or something :P
Anyway, a really funny idea for a book list!

message 35: by Majasol (new)

Majasol The idea of this list is awesome. Haha :D

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

message 40: by Angela (new)

Angela i swear this list made my day

message 41: by Emma (new)

Emma I have a "bookshelf" called Headless-women-on-the-cover. My friends recommend books to be based on the headless women. I too noticed that I was reading lots of these! I love your list!

message 42: by Emily (new)

Emily What are we supposed to vote based on?

message 43: by Rosa (new)

Rosa wow!I find this list hilarious!
it got my attentionn straight away!
I have noticed that many books feature foreheadless people but never really thought to make a list out of it!
I LOVE the list!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Emily wrote: "What are we supposed to vote based on?"

I voted on books I like that have headless women on the cover, personally.

♫ Andrea the car crash heart ♫ OMG. this list is hilarious!! love the title!!

message 46: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne noticed this too, though the covers often are beautiful, it is getting beyond ridiculous.

message 47: by Namida... (new)

Namida... they used to mark a person's stupidity by his forehead, saying he has a fair forhead or a stupid one. i guess all these models have stupid foreheads. hilarious list, i never noticed it.lol!

message 48: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Buahahahaha! I love this list :D

message 49: by Rebecca (last edited Nov 20, 2010 09:51PM) (new)
