Nadita A lovely change from his previous books.

message 5: by Nadita (new)

Nadita Surely we can all identify with Walter.

message 6: by Nadita (new)

Nadita I read this the first time sitting on a mattress on the floor in a small room in La Paz, Bolivia at a time when I needed a little joy in my life. I also read "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom at the same time and they both remain two of my favorite books ever!

message 7: by Lilliansara (new)

Lilliansara I vastly enjoyed all of Rowena Cherry's books. Had a good time giggling at some of the antics of her characters. Would recommend her books to anyone who can read, write, and even do small mathematical sums in their heads.

message 8: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Did I miss seeing Bill Bryson's Neither Here Nor There? I read it a long time ago. It's probably a bit dated now, but it was really funny.

message 9: by Asta (new)

Asta Nyssönen No John Green? really?

message 10: by Valerie (new)

Valerie I don't get some of these books. I mean The Great Gatsby? I Capture the Castle? There not even supposed to be funny.

message 11: by Melody (new)

Melody Mixed there are a number of duplicates on this list and I shure have a different idea of humour than a lot of these people because while I thought the books were good I didn't find quite a few on this list funny. well it takes all kinds

message 21: by Foxontherun (new)

Foxontherun Ant Farm is literally the funniest book I've ever read. Good to see "Three Men in a Boat" on there, too.

message 22: by Steve (new)

Steve I agree with the above comment, some of these books are in the wrong category. Once again...The Adventures of Jonny Law. It belongs on the list. Read the review posted by ReadingForSanity.blogspot...oh yeah.

message 23: by Not Your Cuppa (new)

Not Your Cuppa Spud by john van de ruit, that was entertaining.

Angie (Mind Malfunction) I voted for:

One for the Money, Janet Evanovich
Two for the Dough, Janet Evanovich
Three to get Deadly, Janet Evanovich
Sucks to be Me, Kimberley Pauly
Still Sucks to be Me, Kimberley Pauly

One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich Two for the Dough (Stephanie Plum, #2) by Janet Evanovich Three To Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) by Janet Evanovich Sucks to Be Me The All-True Confessions of Mina Hamilton, Teen Vampire (maybe) by Kimberly Pauley Still Sucks to be Me More All-True Confessions of Mina Hamilton Smith, Teen Vampire (Sucks to be Me, #2) by Kimberly Pauley

message 31: by Jack (new)

Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

message 35: by Ruthy (new)

Ruthy Balloon Animals by Jonathan Dunne should be on this list if it isn't already. Completely original.

message 37: by Walter (new)

Walter Great list - mostly. I think some of the books don't belong here (even if they are great). Romeo and Juliet - humor? Gimme a break!

message 38: by Donna (last edited Feb 15, 2014 01:07PM) (new)

Donna Walter wrote: "Great list - mostly. I think some of the books don't belong here (even if they are great). Romeo and Juliet - humor? Gimme a break!"
Agreed. Humor is subjective, but some of these are pure trollery. The Thin Man? What? Okay, I went all the way through this list, and a lot of Shakespeare was dropped in, when really, the only one that can be stretched to the humor genre might be A Midsummer Night's Dream...

message 39: by Donna (new)

Donna Just a little reminder to those who have suggested books to be added to this thread: only you (or someone else who has read them and wishes to vote for them) can add these to the list. Those of us with librarian privileges but who have not read the book, cannot, because when you add a book, you also cast a vote.

To add a title to this list, go to the top of the list where you see two tabs on the top right. The one that automatically shows up is "all votes". If you click on the other one that says "Add a Book", you will get two windows. You can enter the title of the book you like and it should pop up, assuming you have already made it one of your "read" or "currently reading" titles.

Obviously, you are expected to have read some books and rated them, or at least checked the "read" or "currently reading" box by them, before you come here to vote. So as long as you have accurately remembered the title, it will pop up, and you can hit the button that says to vote for the book. If you have not voted for any others, it will become your #1 vote. If you want to add it but don't like where it falls on your voting list, you can alter which title is your #1 choice and send it somewhere else, by clicking the number of the vote box beside your now-voted-upon title, and changing it. I just voted for 100 titles, the maximum, and I spent a good 20 minutes shifting their order. It's pretty easy once you know how, and (speaking from experience when I was new to this site) utterly maddening if you don't know how.

Once you have a large number of titles in your book collection, if you have added shelves, you can do as I did and click "add a book", then on the left is a window that lets you bring up only the books you have read on a particular shelf. I used it to scroll down to my "humor" shelf, and then voted for those I had given five stars (and later, as space was available, I went back and added some four star books also).

I hope this helps. Posting titles here in discussion lets the people reading the discussion know that you like the book, but it does nothing to affect the overall ranking of the title among the votes. Do your most chuckle-worthy humorist a favor and actually vote for them. Once you figure out how it works, it is easy and enjoyable. Everyone who visits Goodreads fairly regularly gets there sooner or later, but I wish clearer instructions were made more visible to new voters.

If you actually read Romeo and Juliet, you'll find that it contains a lot of comedy elements. Also, Shakespeare's plays are divided into the categories of Tragedy, History, and Comedy for a reason -- because a large number of his plays are comedies and are meant to be funny. Don't make a blanket statement about an author/playwright just because you may have read/seen a mere handful of his plays.

message 41: by Khanh (new)

Khanh lol How did Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone get on this list?

Anyone can add books to this list.
