Lisa Greer These are not in a particular order. If you like these, check out my other list. I like mystery/gothic/suspense/horror best.

Have you read any Norah Lofts?

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Greer I tried one of hers... I just couldn't get into it. Is she a favorite of yours? I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for gothic novelists... good/smart suspense, etc.

Yes, she is my very favorite writer. It helped some that I picked up one of her books at the library when I was living in England. I own about 53 of her books. I am hoping to collect them all but most are out of print now. I got a big box on eBay a few years back. Which one did you try?

message 6: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Greer I think it was 'Gad's Hall...' Is there one you recommend? I prefer gothic type novels/suspense, etc. Thanks, Canary. :)

Oh, I liked Gad's Hall but then I like most all NL books. Most in her group like The Town House. I has been published again and last year I got a brand new copy for the gorup read. Let me know if you like it?

message 8: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Greer I will put that one on my library list and see if I can find it. Thanks! :)

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

YOu may have to go on interlibrary loan to get it. I had to do that a few months back to get one. They sent it down from Denver.

message 10: by Juliana (new)

Grace Hamilton Jean Auel, The Earth's Children series needs to be added to this list, starting with Clan of the Cave Bear

message 18: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Richards The books I`ve voted for are because they are beautiful and I can read them again and again.

message 19: by Grace (new)

Grace Hamilton The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini is an interesting SciFi read

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

message 21: by Alicia (new)

Alicia I'm looking for more authors with tales like Neil Gaiman's, James Rollins early stuff, and Dean Koontz or Jeremy Robinson. Let me know if any of you have any light fantasy/realistic sci-fi author favorites. I've read all the novels of those authors and need more more MORE!! My votes also are in no particular order, unless you count the order I saw them on the list. Thanks & feel free to friend me, especially if you enjoy any if the above mentioned authors/genres. Thanks!!

message 22: by Donna (new)

Donna Davis What a wonderful idea for a listopia! I had no idea how many "ah ha!" books I had in my life till I started voting, and it's interesting to see what did it for other people. It seems to me that the quality (subjectively speaking, obviously) of the titles entered is more thoughtful than some of the other lists.

message 23: by Booklovinglady (last edited Jul 21, 2014 07:04AM) (new)

Booklovinglady Thinking about a good or even excellent book (long) after I've read it is not unusual for me. But there are very few books that actually 'blew me away', so to speak, and when they did, it often had more to do with the subject matter and less with being cleverly written. So I've voted for some of the many excellent books on this list which either managed to 'blow me away' or came close to it :-)

message 24: by Kessiah (new)

Kessiah I'm SO glad that To Kill a Mockingbird was in the top 10. I don't know how anybody could walk away from that book without being intensely affected by it

message 25: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hunger Games #1. Seriously?? What is there to think about?

message 26: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Tommy wrote: "Hunger Games #1. Seriously?? What is there to think about?"

And yes. I did read all three of these and enjoyed them. BUT NUMBER 1 ?!!?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

How is Twilight on there?!

message 28: by StarDancer (new)

StarDancer Tommy wrote: "Hunger Games #1. Seriously?? What is there to think about?"

Indeed. I found the series as a whole deeply disturbing, reflecting on our society, war, and humanity as it did - but #1 alone doesn't give you that at all.

HeatherJay ( Loves Cliffhangers and Love Triangles! ) Catcher in the rye SUCKS!!!!

message 30: by Zorak (new)

Zorak I absolutely adored The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It really did blow me away. I normally do not re-read books, but I would definitely re-read that. :D

message 31: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Cameron I'll just throw this out there: if you haven't read A Prayer for Owen Meany... you don't know what it is to be totally blown away by a book. Amazing and compelling character with a wonderful coming of age story and an ending... you'll never see it coming, and you'll never forget it. Yes it's long. Yes, it may seem slow in parts... trust me, it is building to something HUGE. I've read nearly half of the books in the top 100 here (45) and not one of them compares to Owen Meany... just saying

Anyone can add books to this list.
