Wikipedia says it was published in 2006 and it also got an award in 2007. The American edition might have been published in 2009.

I want to add 'View Points and Points of View', by Clive Blake and Chris Robbins to this list, but seem to be having problems. Goodreads had a publishing date of Oct 2008 noted for this book, but this should be Feb 2009. When I pointed this out 'Heather' kindly alterred this, but now it reads published Feb 2009 (originally published in 2008). I've checked with the publishers, Emu House Publications, and they say it was published for the first time in Feb 2009, it was originally planned to be published in Oct 2008, but Christmas rush production problems meant this was resheduled for Feb 2009. Can someone please take off the '(originally published in 2008)' bit, so that I can add this book to this list.

I love this book! It's suspenseful and has a great ending, which I won't give away. Also, I like the fact that it's based on a true story, especially since it's set during the depression.
Wow, that is depressing. City of Glass is no.2?? I agree with The Help being the the best of this list, that one was amazing.
Honestly, if you're not into vampires this has not been the greatest year for fiction. I'd say Home Repair by Liz Rosenberg is the one clear literary stand-out, and then, for surprise factor, Pride & Predjudice Zombie book was way wittier and better than I'd have dreamed. Those two make the year worthwhile-- let's hope for more good books this fall.
Agree with Kono-- Home Repair made my top list for the year as well. I love the touch of humor, and yes it has a story, too, for readers like Farzad
I think Gina Barreca's book "It's Not That I'm Bitter...." should be on this Best Books of 2009 list. She's smart, funny and honest. A must-have for 2009. It's Not That I'm Bitter . . . Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Visible Panty Lines and Conquered the World
Why does the best book list of 2009 not include "9 Dragons" by Michael Connolly or "The Defector" by Daniel Silva. Both excellent reads. skillfully written. Not artsy enough?
Yeah, i agree! The ghostgirl books are the most original and they had me laughing and I cried at the end of the second book Homecoming. So, I vote ghostgirl: Homecoming!
I wish there was a "boo this sucks" button because some of the books I really cant see how people like them so much

sometimes a book's published date is later. You might be reading a book right now but the date is stated as 2010.
If you are interested in the history of the American West, Manifest Destiny and Native Americans, then I recommend Elliot West's The Last Indian War:The Nez Perce Story. It gave me insight into the United States dealing with other cultures in the 1880's.
Really enjoyed going through your list. I review books on amazon regularly and only heard about this site today. I'm having a great time reading the lists.

I've just received this GR Newsletter & the listopia today, it's interesting of course but, as for the first 1-100 list, I'm sorry I've not heard/read any title up there. Why don't you have a few more lists like, say, a classics list, a comtemporary classics list, a memoir list, a biography list, a history list, etc.?Maybe I belong to another generation different from those young, elite readers worldwide.

How about a memoirs/biography list. A great book came out in June about a grandfather that grew up on a farm in the '40's. The book is true memoirs, 35 chapters actually about life on the home front during WWII, eating traditions, clothes they wore and much more. It's titled A Grandfather's Gift it's on agrandfathersgiftonline.com It's available at all online stores.
I think Wally Lamb's latest book, The hour I First believed should be on this list. It is about Columbine and its aftermath as told by a survivor. We see the affects on those who survivied and how thier lives and the lives of their loved ones are affected. I love his character development and was not able to put the book down!
GONE OVER, by David Chacko and Alexander Kulcsar is the best historical published last year and one of the best novels period. See this review for an independent opinion. http://openlettersmonthly.com/blog/mi...
