Which one was it? If you`re an librarian you can change/add the "orginal publishing year"

Pat Shackleford Amy wrote: "The book is Genesis by Bernard Beckett.

Wikipedia says it was published in 2006 and it also got an award in 2007. The American edition might have been published in 2009.

message 3: by Juanma (new)

message 4: by David (new)

David I want to add 'View Points and Points of View', by Clive Blake and Chris Robbins to this list, but seem to be having problems. Goodreads had a publishing date of Oct 2008 noted for this book, but this should be Feb 2009. When I pointed this out 'Heather' kindly alterred this, but now it reads published Feb 2009 (originally published in 2008). I've checked with the publishers, Emu House Publications, and they say it was published for the first time in Feb 2009, it was originally planned to be published in Oct 2008, but Christmas rush production problems meant this was resheduled for Feb 2009. Can someone please take off the '(originally published in 2008)' bit, so that I can add this book to this list.

Somebody changed it, it`s now possible to vote for the book

message 6: by David (new)

David Ye, thanks Rusty, I have now posted my vote.

message 7: by Booklover (new)

Booklover I love this book! It's suspenseful and has a great ending, which I won't give away. Also, I like the fact that it's based on a true story, especially since it's set during the depression.

message 8: by Dafne (new)

Dafne i love vampire books!!!

message 9: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Wow, that is depressing. City of Glass is no.2?? I agree with The Help being the the best of this list, that one was amazing.

message 10: by Dafne (new)

Dafne Really?

message 11: by Kono (new)

Kono Grant Honestly, if you're not into vampires this has not been the greatest year for fiction. I'd say Home Repair by Liz Rosenberg is the one clear literary stand-out, and then, for surprise factor, Pride & Predjudice Zombie book was way wittier and better than I'd have dreamed. Those two make the year worthwhile-- let's hope for more good books this fall.

message 12: by Dafne (new)

Dafne No! I love vamps!!!!!!!

message 13: by Farzad (new)

Farzad hi, I love story books!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND THEM

message 14: by Dafne (new)

Dafne look at library or bookstore or ask the internet!

message 15: by Tina (new)

Tina Starr Agree with Kono-- Home Repair made my top list for the year as well. I love the touch of humor, and yes it has a story, too, for readers like Farzad

message 16: by Bookprgirl (new)

Bookprgirl I think Gina Barreca's book "It's Not That I'm Bitter...." should be on this Best Books of 2009 list. She's smart, funny and honest. A must-have for 2009. It's Not That I'm Bitter . . . Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Visible Panty Lines and Conquered the World

message 17: by Susanna (new)

Susanna The form to add books is over on the right hand side of the page.

message 18: by Joe (new)

Joe Why does the best book list of 2009 not include "9 Dragons" by Michael Connolly or "The Defector" by Daniel Silva. Both excellent reads. skillfully written. Not artsy enough?

message 19: by Susanna (new)

Susanna Why don't you add them? This is a collaborative list.

message 20: by Joe (new)

Joe "9 Dragons" by Michael Connolly

"The Defector" by Daniel Silva

message 21: by Susanna (new)

Susanna The link to add them is over at the right-hand side of the page. "Find/Add Books to List."

message 22: by Carolina (new)

message 23: by Jamie (new)

Jamie ghostgirl:homecoming!

message 24: by Violet (new)

Violet Yeah, i agree! The ghostgirl books are the most original and they had me laughing and I cried at the end of the second book Homecoming. So, I vote ghostgirl: Homecoming!

message 25: by Kimber (new)

Kimber Coon I wish there was a "boo this sucks" button because some of the books I really cant see how people like them so much

message 26: by Susanna (last edited Dec 17, 2009 11:42am) (new)

Susanna I guess the best thing you can do is vote for the ones you do like. Or add them if they're not already on the list - the link is over at the right side.

message 27: by David (new)

David Sanders I'd like to know how many of these so-called "best" books are just crap written about vampires. What is wrong with you people?

message 28: by Susanna (new)

Susanna Vampires are flavor of the month?

message 29: by Dafne (new)

Dafne David wrote: "I'd like to know how many of these so-called "best" books are just crap written about vampires. What is wrong with you people?"

vaps are the best!

message 30: by SueAnn (new)

SueAnn sometimes a book's published date is later. You might be reading a book right now but the date is stated as 2010.

message 31: by Louise (new)

Louise If you are interested in the history of the American West, Manifest Destiny and Native Americans, then I recommend Elliot West's The Last Indian War:The Nez Perce Story. It gave me insight into the United States dealing with other cultures in the 1880's.

message 32: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Lane Really enjoyed going through your list.
I review books on amazon regularly and only heard about this site today. I'm having a great time reading the lists.
It's amazing so many books that I have read are not on these lists.
I really appreciate when people do a low rating as it is a true warning Don't waste your money.

message 33: by Shana (new)

Shana Is there a way to search for a book on the list rather than reading the entire list?

message 34: by Dafne (new)

Dafne uhuh!

message 35: by Yuningers (new)

Yuningers Where is John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River or Barbara Kingsolver's Lacuna???

message 36: by Susanna (new)

Susanna You could try adding them - the form is over at the right hand side of the page ("find/add books to list").

message 37: by Anina (last edited Jan 11, 2010 06:17am) (new)

Anina Could they show just the books I've read so I don't have to go through the entire list?

message 38: by Mary (new)

Mary I'd like to know how to suggest books published in 2010, and when you do it.
Mary

message 39: by umberto (last edited Jan 13, 2010 07:39pm) (new)

umberto I've just received this GR Newsletter & the listopia today, it's interesting of course but, as for the first 1-100 list, I'm sorry I've not heard/read any title up there. Why don't you have a few more lists like, say, a classics list, a comtemporary classics list, a memoir list, a biography list, a history list, etc.?
Maybe I belong to another generation different from those young, elite readers worldwide.
Thanks for your time and kind consideration.

message 40: by James (new)

James Smith How about a memoirs/biography list. A great book came out in June about a grandfather that grew up on a farm in the '40's. The book is true memoirs, 35 chapters actually about life on the home front during WWII, eating traditions, clothes they wore and much more. It's titled A Grandfather's Gift it's on agrandfathersgiftonline.com It's available at all online stores.

message 41: by Ilene (new)

Ilene David I think Wally Lamb's latest book, The hour I First believed should be on this list. It is about Columbine and its aftermath as told by a survivor. We see the affects on those who survivied and how thier lives and the lives of their loved ones are affected. I love his character development and was not able to put the book down!

message 42: by Herman (new)

Herman Tok GONE OVER, by David Chacko and Alexander Kulcsar is the best historical published last year and one of the best novels period. See this review for an independent opinion. http://openlettersmonthly.com/blog/mi...

Susanna There are a great many lists on Listopia (click All Lists at the right top of this page), and we are free to make more, on any subject that pleases us.

I am under the impression that The Hour I First Believed was first published in 2008.

message 45: by Marilyn (last edited Jan 19, 2010 02:48pm) (new)

Marilyn Willis I'd like to add 4 books that my book club read this year that I thought were excellent. No bad language, uplifting and no violence are our requirements.
The Wednesday Letters by Jason F Wright
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie BarrowsThe Zookeepers Wife by Diane Ackerman The Ultimate Life by Jim Stovall AND Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Just because a book came out a couple of years ago doesn't mean you can't read it now. :)

message 46: by Tshepo (new)

Tshepo zaza Hi, my girlfriend is birthdaying so i wanna buy her a book on her birthday, and i realy don't know what book to buy. can anybody help me on choosing the best book ever...

message 47: by Susanna (last edited Jan 19, 2010 09:10am) (new)

Susanna Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was first published in 2008.

The Wednesday Letters was first published in 2007, as was The Zookeeper's Wife and The Ultimate Life.

What kind of books does she like, Tshepo?

message 48: by Jessie (new)

Jessie Carty how come there are all those categories but no poetry category?

message 49: by Susanna (new)

Susanna There seem to be a number of poetry-oriented lists. I would put "poetry" into "enter a tag" on the Listopia main page.

thanks susanna :) i have seen several poetry lists but i was surprised that the "best of" items listed in the newsletter were for a number of genres but no poetry!
