What a shame for every real vampire novels fan that the infamous "twilight" is rated first.Twilight is a teen romance novel first and vampire novel second. And in neither of those categories, it could ever score first place.
I am surpised that "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" isnt on there... but a lot of good books are on there I read quiet a few of them.
I know some don't agree, but I loved Twilight. And I am definitely not a teeny-bopper either. Can't help, I am in love with Edward. I hope that some of the other books on this list will satisy my vampire reading....!!
I LOVE the Twilight Saga it Rocks! But I also like the HoN (House of Night) series, Night World, and Blue Bloods! Go Vamps!!!!
I am very surprised that Brian Stableford's The Empire of Fear is not on this list. Probably one of the best vampire tales of vampires ruling the world/alternate history written.
Remember when vampires were cool scary monsters. Well that ended and we now have crap like Twilight and Marked. Oy

Any and all Anne Rice books. They beat the HELL out of gay Twilight. You want a real vampire? Read those.

Laurell K. Hamilton is way better than Anne Rice. You want real vampires read her.

Can the vampires in twilight have sex? that's the one thing that bothered me about Rice's vampires... so much sensualtiy... but still something missing~

The vampires in Twilight can and do have sex. She just doesn't make a huge deal of it. Just Bella wanting to.
I agree with you on that Arianna. Rice totally missed out by leaving it out. Anyway I think it would be a better idea to not put up every vampire book in a series by one author if there's a lot of them. With Twilight and the Anita Blake series if you like one book you'll most likely like them all. Dracula, while good, one must face the fact that it's dated, written in letter format, etc. I think 'Salem's Lot if the best overall.

it's because when you put the books in order on the right after you vote for them, that affects the placement on the list like i voted for the vampire lestat and dracula... but i ordered my list so that dracula came before it... that's part of it.

I agree, it's a fad. the unfortunate thing with fads is that they dominate the conversation. the book isn't particularly written well, either.
Couldn't agree more. It is sad to see the Twilight series so high on this list. Good books? Perhaps, but no. 1 vampire book? I think not much less them taking up half the top ten. Bah! Once the fad dies.. people will see what the truly great vamp books are!
Opinions are like, um, noses...everyone's got one!While I don't believe for a second that the Twilight saga is anywhere near a literary masterpiece--or even well-written--I will say that it's engrossing, highly entertaining and the best escapism I've had in years! If you want to knock it, that's fine, but you should read it first so that you know why you hated it so much in the first place. Just a thought!

I am new to vampire books and i admit I am reading both the Twilight and HON series. They ARE intertaining, however are the any suggestions to some more "adult" reading???

Confession: I'm a twilight fanatic. HOWEVER, I agree that maybe the ancient vampire stories should have a better rating, but I guess it's all about appeal--which the Twilight Saga has a lot of. To those of you who criticize: you should base it off the books and not the movie--the two are not relatable. I love the vampire academy series and I like the House of Night Series (though it was somewhat badly written) I hope that the rest of these are just as great. :)
The Twilight books are poorly-written Mormon propaganda. Dracula is the original, and BEST, vampire book out there. Followed closely by King's Salem's Lot.
The fact that some of these books are so high on the list of "the best" makes me sad. Some people have no real view of what is actual literary work and what is just manufactured drivel.

My thoughts exactly. Honestly....the QUINTESSENTIAL modern vampire novel...period...Dracula. Trumped by a touchy feely teenager book by a 30-something housewife. Okay...whatever, I guess it really is just incredibly popular.
There wouldn't BE twilight or any of these books without Dracula! You twilight voters are f*&king stupid.....

This is a popularity list... not really a cuality, smart, o "best" list...... this atributes has never been popular

And, yet again, there would be no vampire books, without the BEST vampire book, Bram Stoker's Dracula.
People who love Twilight are morons with no taste.
