Not nearly as captivating as Peter the Great by Robert Massie but this is mostly due to the fact that Catherine frittered away so much of her time and energy with an endless list of gorgeous but rather mindless lovers. I was a bit bored by the descriptions of her love life and would have preferred to read more about her politics.
