This book surprised me by how much I enjoyed it. The characters were eccentric and the story unfolded in a pleasantly unpredictable fashion.

On the surface this book is about two women trying to pry their aged father from the grips of a 36 year old gold digger but it's also about family, loyality, secrets, and forgiveness. I really liked the way the Ukrainian history was woven throughout the book. Good mix of humor and sadness.

At one point, the characters are not sure their father will make it to September, and the marriage had been dragging on so much that I wasn't sure that I would.
It was about at that point that this little tractor that could started to pick up speed and reached a satisfactory conclusion.

I would give this book 3 1/2 stars if that was possible. I liked it but not as much as I thought I would. Somehow, after reading all these raving reviews, I had expected more. Or something differently. I can't really put my finger on it.

I was worried that this book was over-hyped and I would end up hating it, but I was pleasantly surprised.
