This was a bit too black and white in its portrayal of good and evil to resonate with me, and I have to admit I skim read quite a bit towards the end. As with a lot of epic fantasy, it would have been a better book with 300 or so pages lopped off.

The dialogue also came off as clunky and unrealistic too often. And was Josh based on BA Baracus? He was pitying the fool at several points, even though Murdoch wasn't in it.

That said, it was an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic world with some

Enjoyed every single page. I haven't devoured a book like this in ages. I LOVED it. I can't believe I haven't heard of this book till recently. Fantastic. I understand why it is compared to THE Stand (which I also love)but it is also different and deserve to stand on it's own accord. I think Robert R McCammon may become a new fav author.

Read this in high school (oh so long ago). I can't remember any of it so thought I'd re-read.
HOLY CRAP. This book is amazing. I'm not done with it yet, I'm on page 500 and something. HOLY CRAP. MUCH better than The a longshot. Full review to come.
I am a huge fan of Stephen King,
as well as Apocalypse fiction.I read The Stand hungrily.
A year or so later I picked up Swan Song.
Although it might sound sacrilegious, I dug Swan song so much more.
I really didn't want to leave this world, and although its almost as long
a novel as The Stand, the action starts in the first chapter and doesn't slow.
I'll be reading this again one day for sure.
