This is the third in Stirling's series of a post-apocalyptic future in which explosions can no longer occur. This means that engines and firearms are worthless.

In this story, an ever-growing threat from an evil warlord finally comes to play as he sends his forces to invade the lands of the Bearkillers and The MacKenzies.

Those who have read the first two stories will definitely want to read this, as many things are resolved.
