This book is a more adult version of The Giver in my opinion. Mostly that everyone is "happy". or lulled into a false sense of security. The future of civilization that was depicted in this book was shocking to say the least. The idea of family completely destroyed was saddening to me. Erotic play for children and endorsed drug use was simply apalling. Its kind of scary to think however, that this may very well be our future. I just don't get it! I'm supposed to love this, right?
Then why am I not able to make sense of what seems to be this huge jumbled mess?
Now I will freely admit that I'm not much a fan of science fiction, so I may lack the creativity/willful suspension of disbelief to really enjoy and sink my teeth into a book like this. I did, however, enjoy very much 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 which often seems to get lumped together with this book, so what did this lack?
