tana french is a writer who knows her shit, in every sense of the word. she knows language and how to use it like a balm and like a weapon, and she knows how to tell a hell of a story. i read 'the likeness' first and i didn't know, going into this, that it was narrated by rob and not cassie. i loved that-- i loved that it was still french's prose but in a different voice. i now cannot wait to lay hands on the third one, and to find out what she will do with mackey's character in it.

This is one of this books that I kept coming across and could never decide if I wanted to read, so I finally did. Unfortunately those are hours I will never get back.

The first two hundred pages were slow going as I would read 30 pages and then get bored and go do something else, but I was intrigued enough to find out what happen to keep going.

Rob Ryan is a police officer on the murder squad. When he was 12 Ryan's two best friends disappeared from the woods in Knocknaree and Rob is foudn clinging to a tree with blood in his shoes and no memory of what happened. Now Rob and his partner Cassie are called to the scene of a child murder that occured near those same woods and may be connected. A good mystery though like the other book of hers I've read I found it bogged down in the middle and the ending was unsattisfactory.
