What a great book to start the new year with! Beautiful, romantic, fantastic, epic....would love to see this story unfold on the big screen. I dove into this novel and I am sad that I am no longer within its world. I love books that make me feel that way just as I am sad that I have finished reading it.
quite a rich visual backdrop to a story between two illusionists propelled in a contest against each other by their predecessors who have since lost touch with the dangers of the competition. dream-like circus tents we all wish we could enter. I also really enjoyed the concept that illusionists are only deceiving the audience of what is there, when it is all in the mind. Tricks we all wish we could perform, like not getting rained on...etc. I want to meet this bright artistic author!!
A little slow in the first hundred pages while the author sets up the complicated intricacies of a dual between two magicians, the story really picks up once the stage is set and she reveals the personal motivations and relationships between the characters.
