Read in March, 2009
I'm listening to this as an audiobook and so far I'm not real impressed. I guess I just don't think that atheists are that persecuted - at least not in my experience. The examples (thus far) of horror at finding out someone is/was an atheist are from the mid-20th century, when it was still a big deal to have a Catholic president. I have several friends who thought highly of the book and I'm hoping it will improve.

Dawkins makes a comprehensive and effective case that God probably doesn't exist, but more importantly he discusses the way "belief", in the Christian tradition, and especially in the United States, has become sacrosanct and has intruded upon secular life in ways that could only make sense to the blindly faithful.
