recommends it for: insomniacs (ok, a cheap shot, but it's true)

One of the most boring books ever written. Its only saving grace is that it has a couple of good passages about penises.

Hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Krimis sind ja meine Sache nicht, hier handelt es sich aber - glücklicherweise - nicht um einen klassischen Wer-ist-der-Mörder-Krimi, weil von Anfang an klar ist wer weshalb angeklagt wurde und es mehr darum geht, wie es zu dieser Situation kam und wie sich diese auflöst.

Read in July, 2009

Recently re-read this book and loved it all over again. Beautifully written story set in the middle 1950s on an island along the Washington coast. It's a love story, mystery and courtroom drama. It also has a lot to say about the conclusions we jump to about people who are different from us.

It's been too long ago for me to remember much more than the fact that the protagonist falls in love with a Japanese American girl, but I do remember being impressed.
