For aficionados only, but well worth the 99 cents I spent. And with some fascinating little factlets as Sherlock Holmes finds himself bemused and feeling tenderly protective of a certain "child"--Mary Russell. He goes to great lengths to protect her, but Miss Mary isn't easily fooled. Loved this little snippet of insight into the beginnings of their relationship, and the use of coconuts was inspired.

A fascinating alternate point-of-view short story that takes place during the first half of "The Beekeeper's Apprentice." I enjoyed seeing the action from Holmes perspective. It will be interesting to reread the original novel with this story in mind.

More detail to the start of the series. Very good. The series started in a whirlwind and the beginning days were just sort of narrated through quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed the detail.

It is always a pleasure to read anything by Laurie R. King. She has created characters who are real to me and serve as role models for the person I want to be. This short work is a wonderful treat to those of us who already fans of the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series. Not only do we get to experience those first few weeks or months of their new friendship from the perspective of the great detective's mentor, but also we get to learn some new history about Mary Russell's relationship wit
