I really enjoyed the first two thirds of this book. I found it a fascinating counterpoint to Shakespeare's original Hamlet. And, indeed, as the author contends a more flattering portrayal of the maligned Ophelia. However, once events passed over the death of Hamlet and Laertes...this book took a turn. All of a sudden this was about the spiritual awakening of Ophelia, as she truly did make her way to a nunnery. Klein imagines the story of Hamlet from Ophelia's point of view and the result is a gripping story with some unexpected twists, and a peek into the story as written by Shakespeare, even adapting some lines from the play.

I really enjoy books that take an established character from a different story and explore that character's point of view. This books does that for Ophelia in Hamlet, as far as I know.
