Everyone.
If you only read one book this year, let it be this one. If you read two, read THE ROAD by Cormac McCarthy also.
Recently finishedlistening to an audio version of this book. Read beautifully by Allan Corduner. Since this book is narrated by Death, Allan had a hefty role to play. The characters wre so very real, perhaps in aprt because this book, though a novel, is based on the life of the author's grandmother. I want to know more about them all. I miss them.
I'm not going to...more

I loved this book. And when I started it, I really didn't think I would. I actually started it a few months ago and then put it down. I'm not even sure why, I was enjoying it... I guess I just got distracted by something else. And I knew it was going to be sad.
But this book is just beautiful! It's very touching and sweet, at the same time it's very real and sobering. I cried for pretty much the last 1/4 of the book. But it's one I'm keeping and I'm sure I'll reread someday.

Those interested in Holocaust stories.
A detailed look at a different side of the Holocaust: that of a German girl living during those times. It's always interesting to read historical fiction that puts the "other" side into a little more perspective. A moving book, with interesting characters, a unique voice, and excellent word choice, though I feel it could have been cut by about 1/3 to make the remaining story far stronger.

5 STARS!!
This book was just amazing. The characters, the story... everything. I don't even know what to say about it, other than it's just such a powerful book. I laughed. I cried. (I didn't cry as much as I thought I would...) But more than laughing and crying, my heart flew for the characters sometimes, and my heart ACHED for them at other times. Everyone was just so real.

I think I liked this book. It was difficult to get into, but once I did I was caught up in Liesel's story. I this this would be an interesting read aloud and interesting to use to demonstrate some six traits of writing. The narration by Death really struck me as unique. It also demonstrates that a book doesn't always have to be a straight novel.

Death narrates this tale about Liesel who grows up in Nazi Germany. The book is beautifully written; Death is a very empathetic character.
