First thing's first: This book definitely isn't for everyone. People who need to know all the answers, who don't enjoy a mystery lasting for more than a book, probably shouldn't read it. The Aether is never fully explained, nor the Unity. Nor the "end of the world" disaster that made people move into Pods. That will definitely bother some people.

However, if you can bunker down and have faith that these elements will explained in latter books, then the book is actually a good read. Not to say it

Actual rating 3.5 stars.

The last 80 pages got this book an extra star. I was ready to give if 2.5 and be done. Then the main character Aria started to annoy me slightly less.

Surprising unexpected moment where there is a sex scene. By scene I mean it has a line that mentions it without actually using the word sex but kudos to that. That really never happens in young adult books. There is mostly a lot of cuddling, which is fine and all, but not always realistic.
