The Velvet Rage was recommended by family friend David Araugo. It made me think about my own gay identity and wonder how future generations will think about their own. As a gay man I am deeply spiritual and religious due to my up bringing. Which I am grateful for. My gay identity was developed in an LGBTQ support group at a progressive catholic church in Berkeley, CA. Both my family values and my catholic values influenced my identity as a gay man. The Velvet Rage talks about the internalization of shame and anger of gay men. For me, ironically, it was not until I reconciled my relationship with my catholic faith and spirituality that I found peace about my gay identity. How did you come to terms with your gay identity? What space are you in now and where would you like to see yourself at with your gay identity?
