In Joan Aiken’s continuation of Austen’s Mansfield Park, readers get a second look at some of the classic Mansfield Park characters and find a few who are new. Aiken presents Susan Price in the center of this story, as she, younger sister of Fanny Price, has become a stable force in the Mansfield household. There is no significant storyline for Fanny or Edmund actually, as they leave the country to see to business affairs in the West Indies at the beginning of the novel.

It was a quick read, with some interesting, if not very plausible plot twists. I just couldn't follow all of Tom's romantic interests. He goes through three different choices of woman in about as many chapters. Didn't see any real emotional connection between him and who he chooses at the end. Kind of flat feelings about this one. Probably could have been better.

Oh a JOYFUL Delight to read! It continues on from Mansfield Park and gives a great joy of Susan's story. It really had me reading non-stop till I was done! Never a dull moment, not unrealistic. Just lovely!! You will just simply LOVE how Susan is portrayed. She is a combination of Jane Austen's Lizzie Bennett & Fancy Price. She is a complete joy!
