I had heard that this is the book sold 2nd to the Bible. St. Therese, the Little Flower, claimed it to be the nourishment and formation of her spirituality since her childhood - she lived reading and practicing its teachings on a daily basis. It's a classic. It is a book that covers each topic of the spiritual life and gives sound spiritual instruction and training to practice and grow in Christ like spirituality/behavior. It walks hand in hand with the Gospel; a "how to" manual for C...more

This book is going to forever be in either of two places in my home; my coffee table or my bedside. Reading this book this morning was like drinking deep of Christ's love. Thomas a Kempis wrote this devotion in such a way to fan the flame in our soul with beautiful gentle words. It is a book that calls one deeper and farther in to the heart of God.Psalm 42:7 sums it up: "Deep calls unto deep at the sound of thy waterfalls; All thy breakers and thy waves have rolled over me.

Others go along in ordinary life day by day, trying to reach God through prayers and practices or just by doing the right thing as often as they can. Thomas a Kempis, a Dutch sequestered monk living right before the Protestant reformation, is in the second category. His book is about Ordinary Time - day by day Christianity, which, as everyone knows, is a challenge and adventure i...more

I saw this little book early in my spiritual life in my parish bookstore. I don't really know what drew me to it. It had a simple red cover with some symbol (looks like a mix between the cross and the sword) and the title "Sekošana Kristum" (Latvian for "Following Christ").* And I bought it.

I read bits and parts of it as I needed. I can't really read it all from the beginning to the end, although I certainly tried. But I don't think it's really necessary. Someti...more

Have read this book so many times I have lost count. It is WONDERFUL!!! After the Bible it is the most popular book in Christianity and a well-deserved/earned reputation too.
