I like this memoir of Michael J Arlen's rediscovering his Armenian heritage and Armenia's past and contemporary history (into the Soviet era). Motivated by his father's secrecy about the family's Armenian roots, Arlen visits there, a guest of the Cultural Committee, to read histories, to meet residents, to explore the city and countryside.
