I read this book because it came highly recommended. Having been an Anne Rice fan, I was skeptical. And given this was a young adult novel, I was even more skeptical. And THEN when I did start reading it, the writing was not that great and I almost stopped. I also found the main character a little trite and sometimes annoying. BUT....then I kept reading and about 100 pages or so in, I was hooked. The fact that the writing is simple made it so easy to devour this story. And in doing so, I found m...more

Oh such conflict when reading this book...the hero is absolutely wonderful...the tortured "soul" of Edward, the vampire is a well written character...he's menacing, romantic, loving and protective all at the same time...Bella, the heroine, a little more annoyingly typical...confused, pure, incredibly clumsy (which is a nice twist in an otherwise stereotypical character)...the plot...nothing new...an arc that we've all followed in romances before (Romeo & Juliet, Wuthering Heights)...B...more

I'd seen this book around for a while, and I was always interested in reading it. However, the copy from my town library was lost, and at work it always seemed to be checked out or on reserve for someone. So when one copy came back with no hold, I checked it out to myself right away. Now I know why this book is so popular. Meyer's descriptions just made me fall in love with Edward the vampire. It was like an Anne Rice book, but less gay! I can't wait for more!

If you love vampire stories, you will love this one.
Stephenie Meyer creates a story so vivid and brilliant that we are sucked up in the pages. I can't stop reading this till the last page. Each vampire story and characteristic is real, and the love story between a human and a vampire is cliched, but somehow believable.
This is one of the most wanted book in BookMooch, and also a best seller everywhere. I got mine from Amazon.com.

Super engaging wildly romantic vampire love story told from the point of view of a 16 year old. I read this book cover to cover on the plane ride to england, basically couldn't put it down. The story is a bit juvenile but her imagery is great and the plot humms along nicely. Plus its the classic forbidden love story. What chick could resist!?

Neh. Poorly written as far as I'm concerned. One of those books that people seem to either love or hate, with little middle ground. It's geared toward the little preteen/teen girls, and it's good at that. But don't you dare tell me it is a great work of literature, or that it has any literary merit.
