Lee Anne
3 1/2 stars. Fantasy in a alternate London where magicians control England's Parliamentary government through the powers of the djinni they summon.

It feels like sort of a cross between Skulduggery Pleasant and The Screwtape Letters, except without the heart of the former or the satire and irony of the latter.

Bartimaeus, the djinn, sounds a lot like Screwtape, as he relates the disdain and loathing he feels for the humans he serves, but his snarky voice and exasperated attitude make him likeable
