While on a class field trip Alice is lured away from the group by Ray - a child predator. The minute she starts to walk with him, her life is over. She becomes a shell of a girl. A girl technically alive, but dead on the inside.

The story picks up after Alice has lived with Ray for five years. She knows what to expect - she can read his moods. Ray maintains control by reminding Alice that he knows where her “real” family lives. He’s even driven her there and told her that if she attempts to run a

once upon a time, there was a book being called controversial, and a girl who was drawn to it.

i suppose this isn't for the light-hearted, as this isn't what i would call a "fun" read. however, i think it's a brilliant read. so, if you don't want to pick it up, i would understand. ("alice" has been kidnapped and is now kept with ray, who abuses her in all sorts of ways.)

the writing style blew me away, with its brief chapters, sentences that sometimes seem carefully constructed right next to a se

This may be one of the most horrifying books that I have ever read. The story of a young girl who is abducted by a monster/child molester who starves her, abuses her, and then uses her as bait for his next abduction. Told in first person narrative, Alice tells her story with a matter of fact and chilling numbness that will make your blood run cold. Only for older, mature teens--this is too intense for younger teens. It was almost too intense for me.

I am giving this three stars just because it was a ruff read for me. I mean who wants to read a sad book like this. Yes this is a good book and a short book at that. But man when I was finished I felt so down. It is a book that will be stuck in my mind forever. If you are down do not read this.. wait till you are in a good mood!

It's hard to read of the horrors that are inflicted upon this girl, but I was compelled to read until I finished. There are a lot of horrible implications, but I liked the way that the author manages to convey them without graphic detail.

This is I book that I wouldn't have picked up but it's one that book club picked. This is a very brutal novel. The rawness of the story makes it a difficult one to keep reading but you have to read it to the end to have closure. This is a short book, but it's effective. I will never forget this book. You know that there are people out there in this world and that kids have to deal with the pain they inflict. I could not put it down,

This book was a bit disturbing. It's from the point of view of a 15 year old girl who has been held captive as a sex toy for a man ever since she was 10 years old. I guess I'm too shocked to really think about how to review or rate this. All I know is I couldn't put this book down and read it straight through.

I hated this book for the inconsistencies as much as for the gratuitous sexual abuse.
