Haunting. Tragic. Beautiful.
Inventive and imaginative, while still grounded in nostalgia. I've seen this compared to Murakami (and not because of the motif of things disappearing), but a Murakami who listens to indie rock (as Meno notes in the book) instead of jazz. Meno's version of hard-boiled is "cuter" than Murakami's, but the serious reality of the characters and events is just as hard-hitting.
