While there are definitely excellent one-liners in this book, I just was not engaged. I was looking for that emotional catharsis since people kept raving how great the book was but it just left me feeling disappointed. I wasn't emotionally involved with Augustus to feel sad for his death and the writing was just meh.
I happened to see a preview of the movie that is based upon this book..I thought it would be better to read the book first. I thought the book was fantastic! I look forward to seeing the movie and reading other books by this amazing author!!!!
Update 10/28/13:

I reread this book a couple of days ago (and actually purchased my own copy.) It's held up since the first time I read it. I picked up on a lot more of Green's use of foreshadowing and other small details I missed the first time.

I just...really appreciate this book. I realize most people reading it only focus on Hazel and Gus, but having such a popular book (and soon, a movie) about something like teens with cancer is so huge. I only wish people understood the thoughts and desire
A story about a girl dying of cancer was never going to be a fun read- but it was thought provoking and sad - and I will remember it for quite some time.
so freakin beautiful
