The story is a little too "hopeless romantic" for me, but the book is beautifully written. I found many of the observations on love, marriage/relationships, obsession, and passion to be right-on. Also, I think I know a real life Florentino Ariza...

I had a really hard time getting into this book. It starts out talking about these old people that I didn't know anything about and don't really care about. Once the story flashed back into the past to explain how the old people got there, the book started to get good. I thought the best part was the way the author described the character's feelings and emotions, especially the main character that waits 40 years for his love. Part of me wanted to say, Get over it!!
